Laurie Miltenberger Obituary

Laurie Thompson Miltenberger passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 21, at the age of sixty-five. She was born on July 3, 1958, to John Walter Thompson and Gloria Bono Thompson. Laurie is survived by her loving husband of almost 41 years, Edwin John Miltenberger; her children, Elizabeth Miller (Donald), Mary Ann Miltenberger, Edwin Miltenberger, Jr. (Lindsey), Amelie Sheppard (Jeremy), Walter Miltenberger (Lauren), James Miltenberger (Abbie), Gloria Miltenberger, and her eight adoring grandchildren. She is also survived by her parents, siblings, Dr. John Thompson II (Michelle), Jan Dicks (Ed), Theresa Jones (Charlie), Tommy Thompson (Beth), Stephen Thompson (Scott Vaughan), and Maureen Kelly (John), and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Laurie graduated from Mandeville High School in 1976. After high school, she attended Southeastern Louisiana University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She began her professional career as an elementary teacher. She was greatly loved and respected by her second-grade classes for the two years she taught. When she gave birth to her firstborn in 1983, she chose to retire and stay home with her children. Laurie homeschooled all seven of her children to great success and was passionate about their education and spiritual lives. Laurie was generous, kind, and gracious. She liked best to be with her family and care for her youngest daughter, Gloria, and her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook whose home was a warm, welcoming space full of joy. She loved to be outside in the sun, she loved being on the beach, and she appreciated the beauty of each sunrise and sunset. Laurie was a wonderful wife, mother, Grammy, daughter, sister, and friend. She had a deep, rich relationship with Jesus, and could always be found in the early morning hours reading her Bible, praying, and journaling. She was a tender spirit who will be deeply missed. Her gentle presence touched many and will forever influence all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in memory of Laurie to the ministry of Dave and Debbie Diamond, at DaveDiamond.net/To-Donate. Dave and Debbie have been a powerful, hopeful presence for Laurie over the years. Donations could also be made to Alive Hospice Care at AliveHospice.org/Get-Involved/Give. Alive is a non-profit facility in Nashville. They did a beautiful job caring for Laurie in her last week, and the Miltenberger family is deeply grateful for their care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433, on Thursday, November 2, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A service will be held at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4375 LA-22, Mandeville, LA 70471, on Friday, November 3, at 3:00 p.m., with the wake beginning at 2:00 p.m. until service time. A private, family-only interment will take place following the service at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery, Saint Benedict, LA. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.

I´m really sorry to hear of Laurie´s passing. She was an amazing woman, and it´s truly heartbreaking. I´ll always remember her for her kind and gentle spirit; especially for the ways she encouraged and inspired my walk with Jesus. She spoke so much truth into my life and coached me through some difficult times.

Praying for this family.

Ed, our hearts are so saddened by the loss of your precious Laurie. I will forever picture her in my mind as Kristie's second grade teacher, she was just so perfectly suited as she loved and cared for the children...I still remember you walking into her classroom one day, and knew that you had found a prize as you began dating so long ago, seems like yesterday. Hugs, and prayers for you and your children as you go forward during these difficult times.

Ed and all, I've been so sad since I heard and know it's been a long year of hope and resilience. Prayers and thoughts for good comfort tomorrow. She was a bright light and I can hear her upbeat, energetic voice, yet. And that infectious smile beautifully captures her essence. Love and sympathy, Mona
