Lillie Marie "Ree Ree" Egana

1942 - 2023

Lillie Marie Egana, affectionally known as Ree Ree, entered peacefully into Heaven in the early hours of June 19, 2023. Lillie was born in Foxworth, MS on November 26, 1942. She moved to New Orleans, LA with her parents at an early age and was educated by New Orleans Public Schools, graduating from George Washington Carver High School. Lillie accepted Christ as her savior in her youth and later placed her membership with Franklin Avenue Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Soldiers Ministry until she moved to Picayune, MS to live with her son. Lillie served others throughout her career as a caregiver but was blessed by God with the gift of baking. She was arguably the best cake baker in New Orleans. Once you tasted a Lillie cake you were a customer for life. Ree Ree was greeted in heaven by her parents Edward McGowan and Helen Peters McGowan, her sister Joyce McGowan, and her godchild Jemell. She's survived by her children Carnell Egana, Sr. (Tammy), Brice Egana (Monicker), and Theron Egana (Monique), 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, brothers Edward Earl McGowan (Barbara) and Jerry (Yolanda) McGowan, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Lillie's memorial on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, 8282 I-10 Service Road, New Orleans, LA 70126. The Viewing will start at 9:00 a.m. until the service. Service will be live-streamed on www.franklinabc.com.
