Linda Guess Obituary

Linda C. Guess, age 65, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 after cardiac arrest. Linda was the beloved daughter of the late Homer H. Guess and the late Selma Hermann Guess and beloved sister of Barbara G. Connors and aunt of Morgan A. Connors. She was born on February 11, 1949 in New Orleans and overcame difficulties as a child such as a cleft palate, speech and hearing problems, and Bells Palsy. She graduated from Fortier High School and Soule' Business College. Her character was strong, kind, caring, and fun loving. She worked at Louisiana Rehabilitation Services, Office of Community Service, and Family Services of G.N.O. She was a member of the Iris Carnival Parade Club, the Eleventh Ward Social Club, and other organizations. She also loved the sport of kings as did her father. Of course, she was a Saints fan. She had a happy, active, and productive life. She had many friends for a lifetime and was loved by many caring relatives, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She will be greatly missed by all of us. Visitation will be Thursday June 5th, 2014 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Ponchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, La. from 10am to 1pm with Funeral Service at 1pm. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. The family invites you to share your thoughts, fond memories and condolences online at www.lakelawnmetairie.com

It broke my heart when i heard you were gone, Linda. You and I had a special friendship that i never had before, nor have i had since we began back in 1970 or so. At your funeral, many people talked about your being the life of every party (and you were), but i hope they knew that you were so much more than that. There was nothing you would not do for your friends, but you went beyond that in generosity and offered your love and friendship to everybody. You were a woman of strength, courage, determination, faith, and with more sense than anyone i know. Your work ethics held everybody to a higher standard and although we only actually only worked together at Vocational Rehab, i'm sure you took that into every job you had. I know you instilled it into Morgan as well. I'll miss our discussions and how you 'messed' with me about Catholicism. Our daily 'skype' sessions and chatting on fb while we watched the soaps in different states made my day. I wish i were as good a friend to you as you were to me, but i'm sure i fell terribly short. Thank you for putting up with me all these years. I'll love you til i leave here. To one of a kind, from another.

Barbara and Morgan, you will be in my prayers just as Linda was in my prayers every day, as well as all of us who are grieving her death. God and time will heal our hurt, and although we won't get over it, i know we'll at least get through it.

God Bless Us

My deepest sympathy extends to the family and friends of Ms. Linda Guess.
Ms. Linda was a nice person to know with such a lovely personality. I worked with Linda at CPS in Harahan, La. for several years and her kindness, enthusiasm, eagerness to help, and positiveness were fantastic qualities shared with us and greatly appreciated. She will certainly be missed.
May all who knew Linda find comfort in the God of all Comfort and in fond memories of her.

Nan you will surely be missed, especially on Sundays when we would text back & forth during the Saints games - (now maybe you can do something about Patrick Robinson). Even though we were miles apart, it was great that technology helped us be able to share those moments together. You have always looked out for me from a child to an adult & welcomed my wife & daughter as if they were your own. We will miss talking to you, having lunch or dinner with you when we were in town & the expectation of the much awaited Christmas/birthday gift that always contained something unique & Saints related. I guess you know now that it always meant so much to us that we never did wait to open it - we just couldn't help ourselves. I can't believe such a wonderful person in my life has left way too soon, but you have left me with wonderful memories. And you showed me by your own actions that life is to be lived to its fullest & treat others with kindness & love always. You were more than just me Godmother to me you were an inspiration & even now you are showing me how to live life. Thank you for all you have given & shown me. We will miss you so much! We love you! I first met Linda when I worked at Louisiana Rehabilitation Services. We became fast friends. One of my fondest memories was taking a Spring Break trip from NO to Panama City Florida to St. Petersburg. In none other then Linda's Ford Pinto. Our good friend, Marlene joined us. We had a crazy wild time. Linda was a kind and loving friend. My deepest condolences to her family. Christine Murla Saul from Littleton, Colorado.

Today is a hard one for all of us. We will all have our own personal and special memories of Linda left in our hearts. Like all of her characters she used to dress up as. She always made us smile and laugh.
I am certain of two things, she would have wanted us all to be here today with our happiest thoughts and all the good times and the times we all spent together and secondly she is still with us in spirit.
Linda was such a strong , compassionate and funny person through and through from character, personality and presence. If Linda was your friend you were lucky , she was a True Friend.

We are all here because somewhere, somehow we have all been touched by her.
We were all very lucky to have Linda in our lives and she will be missed dearly.

I cannot express the loss I felt when I heard the news that we lost (a family member) Linda. Linda has been a big part of the Goliwas family for over 40 or so years. I can only take solace knowing she is with my Mom now...that's all I can think of to make sense of this sudden loss of such a wonderful caring person, there was no other like Linda. RIP

Ms. Linda (as I have always called you), it truly has been my pleasure and honor to be considered your friend. You were the "life of the party" always and everyone loved being around you. I am in shock still because you left us so soon and I know that you are in heaven having a "party" up there. Please tell all of our loved ones hello from the Irish Channel!!

Have fun as much as you can with your friends and family. Love, Barbara Walters

What to say. You were bright. You were fun. You were a kind, good hearted person. It's inconceivable that one so spirited could be gone in a flash. You were fun to know and even more fun to work with. You took care of us for years at OCS by making the most difficult tasks seem simple. I know you're up there now smiling down on us. My condolences to your family.

Sweet, sweet Linda. When the Orleans OCS office heard of your passing, we were stunned. How could such a sparkling, energenic, fun-loving woman be taken so soon. The air was heavy from this great loss. Rest in peace. May the angels in heaven enjoy your spirit as much as we did. Much love to the family.

I can't begin to tell you how much we are going to miss you! You were so much fun to hang out with and always made every one laugh! You touched so many lives! You were truly the life of the party! Going to miss seeing you at the club meetings, ladies nights, the Saints tailgating party's (in your gear), St. Patty's (in your Leprechaun shoes/hat), crawfish boils (in your crawfish hat) and so on. You still have me smiling while typing this just thinking of you! Saw your rainbow this weekend in Florida for the girls trip and knew you were there with all of us! We know you were in that Pot of Gold at the end of that rainbow wearing your leprechaun shoes and hat! You will live in our hearts forever! Thanks for all the wonderful memories! You will never be forgotten!
We Love you and may you rest in peace and fly high with the angels! Until we meet again! See you on the other side!

I went to junior high with Linda. Those 3 years I had a great friend shop with her. I did not see her again until 50 years later. It was just like hardly the time passed . She was the same sweet person she was then. I will miss talking to her.

St. Patrick's day won't be the same. Miss Linda was such a very good friend to my Mom and Dad. I can remember her sitting in our kitchen on second street singing irish songs (not really, cause none of them knew the actual words). She had an outfit for every occassion. She was such a sweet person with a contagious laugh and spirit that will be sorely missed.

There are Friends and their's Family but Linda was both. When Bonnie chose Linda to be our son Darren's God Mother it became very clear to us that if anything would have happen to us she would have done all she could to help Darren to become the man he should be. All of the Burns family loved you and you will be missed.
