Lou Gorman was my uncle by miltary services ,because he servied with my father;and as you can see I am learning disabled from a coma. And when I came out of the coma I was still having A lot of seizures a day, And uncle Lou would call me on Crismies eve,and tell me I was only on strike 1 and I had 2 more strikes to go,and how he knew it was hard but how I couldn't give up because the game was not over yet. I loved him like my blood, because he was so wonderful as A person;and he was so great for a sick child. I knew him before he was manger of the Red Socks. He just was a great guy. And once I had to move up here to MASS. He was kind enough to get me tickies for the Red Socks and Yeekyes . I would rute for the NY team, but I exmierd the Red Socks when he was in charge because they did so much for Childern Hosptial and no team in NY. was like that. When He left I left going to any game. I never felt the Red Socks were ever as good as they were when he was there. Now they are like the NY team and if you are going to acted like a NY team I then I should stay with the team I grew up with. His wife was just as wonderful as him, and I lived her the same way. And my prayers go out to his wonderful family, that are just as wonderful as him,and I am guessing that is why he never had kids. Because he had all these great kids already around him. I was so saddened to learn of Lou's passing, and I'm very disappointed that I am unable to attend today's funeral mass. I had the great fortune of working with Lou in Seattle and Boston. What a talented, genuinely friendly and kind man! Lou was a key influence in my life -- always supportive and encouraging. I consider myself extremely blessed to call him both a mentor and a friend. He and his family are all in my prayers. God bless!

In a time when sports generally and baseball in particular were struggling with all sorts of issues, Lou Gorman was a bright candle in the darkness. I worked with Lou when I served as Dean of Arts and Sciences at Northeastern and when Lou asked me to help Red Sox players complete degrees so as to preapre for life after baseball. Lou was a great baseball man; he was an even better human being. I fear that it will be too many moons before we another baseball executive quite like him again.

To the Gorman Family:
I'm sorry to hear that Lou, whom I knew for about 70 years died. I coached Lou when he was a 'tight end' playing touch football for St. Michael's in the CYO league. I was the paperboy for the Gormans when they lived in South Providence. Lou and I coached against each other when we managed Navy teams. May God comfort you. I will remember all of you in my prayers.

To the Gorman's,
I was sorry to see the notice of your Dad's passing. The testament to his character is the honest and heart felt comments left on here.
I have lived in the Ft Myers area since the early 90's and had the opportunity to meet Lou. After doing some shopping at a factory outlet I was returning to my car and noticed the car next to me had a Navy, Stonehill College stickers along with a Mass plate. I thought to myself it couldn't be Lou Gorman's. Sure enough I heard a voice say hello "how are you?" and not "why are you staring at my car?". He immediately shook my hand, asked me about myself and invited me to attend a game with him as his guest. I explained about working full time and that getting time off was a problem. He told me I could always call for him at Fenway when visiting family because his offer stood. I knew he really meant it too!! Now I wish I had done it. Lou's excitement about the upcoming season and the young players the Red Sox had developing made me chuckle.
He was a kind man and role model for what a man hopes to be in the fullness of his life.

Lou Gorman, a good athlete in his own right, is considered one of the great men of baseball. He knew baseball and he knew the players. As the director of baseball operations for the expansion Mariners, the VP of player personnel with the Mets and GM of the Sox, Lou is revered and recognized for assembling talented teams and coming so close to the pennant. But what many may not know is how he related to the guys in uniform.
I wore the uniform for parts of three decades. Players and managers came and went but Lou stayed and his presence made a difference. He was on a slower track, running on personal charm and stopping to relate. In this age of quick emails, Lou stilled penned hand written notes. I got a chance to talk to him at the NECBL award dinner in Newton last winter. He was “on the mend” from a fall and anxious to move on from a winter of confinement. He looked jaunty and couldn’t wait to spin his yarns.
Often called the nicest man in baseball, Lou greeted everyone by their first name and never once walked by without something to say. He would bend over and ask, “How’s you Dad feeling?” or “Did you get a chance to see that play?”
Lou will be remembered for giving more than he took, for showing the way rather than giving directions. A man of principle with a shamrock on his collar and lilt in his voice.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Lou Gorman was a kind, considerate and truly wonderful person. I met Lou when I was hired to be the General Manager of the Royals AA farm team in Jacksonville, Florida in 1973. We were always in touch throughout my professional sports career and he never forgot to check in on me wherever my career took me. I visited him throughout the years in spring training and at Fenway where he hosted me in Mr.Yawkey's private roof top box. A wonderful caring gentleman. My heartfelt condolences to his family. He WILL be missed by all who loved him.

To Lou's family,
He was really a wonderful man, so passionate about baseball, and especially the Red Sox. I so looked forward to seeing him come into my pharmacy. We would talk often about anything from uniforms to Bill Buckner. What a gentleman! He signed my book and the next year brought me in his other book signed for me. He allowed me to try on both the 2004 and 2007 World Series rings. What a thrill! He understood my passion of the Red Sox and continued to feed that fire within. I can't say enough nice things about Lou...I will truly miss him and a little piece of my heart has gone with him. Please just know how wonderful he was...
