Louise Cushenberry White

WHITE Louise Cushenberry White, affectionately known as "Mother White", went home to be with our Lord on September 23, 2013 at the age of 90. Daughter of Louis Cushenberry and Ellen Evans, she united in marriage to the late James Henry White. She is survived by her children George Johnson (Marilyn), Andrea Elliott (John), James Wesley White (Evalena), Ronald Henry White (Darlene), and Janice Rudolph (Fred), along with 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Molly Lemon, Melvina Dugué, and Alfretta Cook, brothers Wardell and Louis Cushenberry, her daughter Pearline Johnson Seals, sons Norman Sigmond White and Louis Wardell Johnson (Beverly), and grandson James Wesley White, Jr. A faithful Christian, Louise went back to school to complete her high school requirements and went on to become one of the first students to enroll at Southern University in New Orleans in 1959. After graduating, she taught in the Orleans Parish school system touching the lives of hundreds of students. Her greatest joy in life was cooking and being with her family. After Hurricane Katrina she was determined to move back to the Lower 9th Ward, and in 2009 returned to the refurbished home her husband built. Family and relatives are invited to final services on Saturday, September 28, at Branch Bell Baptist Church, 1231 St. Maurice Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70117 at 10:00am. Visitation 9:00am until service time. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements by Louisiana Undertaking Co. Inc. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to Branch Bell Baptist Church.
