Marjorie Volz Markway

1928 - 2023

Marjorie Volz Markway, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the age of 95. She was born on July 11, 1928, in Alton, Illinois. Marjorie "Mart" is the daughter of the late Kenneth Volz and Agnes Bergfeld Volz. Her sister, Judy Volz Myers, also preceded her in death. On October 1, 1949, Mart married the love of her life, LeRoy "Lee" Henry Markway. For the next 64 years, they enjoyed working together to build a beautiful life founded on the love of God and family. Mart always knew she wanted to be a mom and is survived by six children and their spouses, Bob and Cathy Markway, Jim and Diane Markway, Rick and Susan Markway, Susan and Kerry Rotolo, Ann and Ben Cowen, and Mary and Roger Turnham, as well as, 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Mart and Lee lived in many locations in the U.S. including Illinois, New Jersey, Texas, Connecticut, and Louisiana. They had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and lived in the Netherlands with their growing family. They spent many summers vacationing in a family cabin on the Lake of the Ozarks. Married to an outdoorsman, Mart developed a love of fishing, and particularly in her retirement, a love of reading. Her legacy is graciousness to all blessed to know her. Funeral services will be held at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church located at 910 Cross Gates Blvd. in Slidell, LA on Monday, November 13, 2023. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Refreshments will be served immediately afterwards in the Family Life Center of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will take place on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, where she will rest, in peace, aside her late husband, Lee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Good Samaritan Ministry of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church.
