Martin Regan Obituary

Attorney Martin E. Regan, Jr., passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 17, 2022, following a stroke at the age of 73. He is preceded in death by his parents Martin E. Regan, Sr., and M. Martha McIntosh, his sons Bryan and Gavin, brother Michael and his first wife, Victoria. Martin is survived by his wife Lilliam, his beloved children Amy (John) and Mickey (Sarah), his stepchildren Lilliam (Luis), Ramon and Christina, his brother John (Joyce), sister-in-law Darlene and his grandchildren Owen, Jack, Atticus, Michael, William and Charlotte, nephews Michael and Matthew, nieces Tyra, Erin and Melissa, grandnephew Tyler, his cousins Jon, Richard and Paul. Martin had countless friends and clients who recognized his greatness. Martin lived by the simple words he often used: do the right thing and do right by others. Martin was a respected and zealous advocate for his clients. He never, ever shied away from zealously representing his client's rights. Martin is a graduate of University of Southwest Louisiana and Louisiana State University Law School. He was a practicing attorney for over 50 years after serving as a proud officer in the United Air Force JAG (Judge Advocate General) stationed at Lakenheath Air Force Base in England. Martin always credited his military career as the foundation for his dedication to honorably stand and his fierce loyalty to a cause. His international law practice was a constant source of pride for Martin; it took him from international courts of law and to the United States Supreme Court. Countless associates have loved him and have learned the subtleties of the law from him. His emblematic dark suit, white shirt and quiet tie is still carried by many. Martin will be missed by his beloved family, his friends, clients and the staff of Regan Law P.L.C. The world is a little less vibrant today after having lost a man whose light was a force of nature. We are consoled by the knowledge that today he hugs and sails with his sons Bryan and Gavin. May his indomitable spirit continue to shine upon the legal profession. The Louisiana Bar Association is less rich without him. The Regan family wishes to thank Stephen Kantrow, MD for his endless support and care not only of Martin but of his sons as well. We thank Guardian Angel Hospice, who are true angels indeed, Richard Zweifler, MD, Laura Kahn, MD, James Rini, MD and the entire Ochsner Neurology Department. Martin was a good and decent man who never missed an opportunity to live full speed ahead. Goodbye Martin and Godspeed. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. until 2 P.M. at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119 on Monday, February 21. Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 2 P.M. in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel. Private interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers the Regan family asks for your contribution to The United Pompe Foundation at https://www.unitedpompe.com/contact-us/. Arrangements by Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home 3827 Canal St. New Orleans, LA 70119. Condolences may be left at www.schoenfh.com.

It has been nearly one year since Martin passed away. I am still sad and frequently pick up the phone to call him for advice, then , sadly remember that he is no longer with us. I first met Martin while working in Juvenile Court, as Judge Tom McGee's Court Social Worker, way back in 1989. I was always impressed with the charismatic and dedicated manner in which he represented his clients in court. He was definitely a force to be reckoned with there! Everyone would agree that he was truly an excellent defense attorney. He was also a dedicated father, husband and friend. I will always remember his kindness. May he rest in peace knowing how much he is loved and missed. Sending prayers for his family. Until we meet again....

My deepest Condolences
I met Martin in January 1984
I needed a job desperately so I could afford to stay in Law School . Martin took me as a law clerk and we became close friends . If not for his guidance and love I would not have made it through.

This was a man of great ambition, talent, inexhaustible capacity and leadership on too many levels to write about .

I was luck enough to call him shortly before he passed.
He was at his office and I told him I loved him and was grateful fort having known him.

God Bless Him and Family

My sincere condolences to the Regan family. I remembered Mr. Regan when I worked security at the Poydras Center. He was always such a distinguished gentleman. That has been many years ago but I am sure he never changed. Praying for family and friends.

May a band of angels be sent from Heaven to comfort his family, friends and colleagues. Martin was a great man, and I was blessed to work with him on several cases. There is a special place in Heaven for such a caring and honorable man. HIs talent and skill as an attorney will be missed, for he will now sit with the Greatest of all Counselors and with his family, whom I'm sure met him at the gates of Paradise. Thank you, Martin, for blessing my life and life's work.
