Mary Blalock Obituary

Mary Holmes Blalock, born July 25, 1943, a life-long resident of New Orleans, passed away on July 2, 2024. Mary is survived by children John Blalock and Mark Blalock (Kaitlin), grandsons Samuel and Michael; niece Heather Huey, and nephew Hunter Huey. She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel B. Blalock, Jr., parents John and Gladys Holmes, sister Joan Huey (Arthur), brother Peter Holmes, and nephew Arthur Huey. Mary was a devoted mother, loving wife, and a woman of faith. She was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Mary enjoyed the outdoors, camping, trail biking, sewing, and arts and crafts. She had a true passion for community service. She devoted her time to crocheting mats for the homeless, baking goods for many outreach programs, and serving the serendipity Sunday school class and craft group, just to name a few. She will be missed by family and friends. Visitation is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. (with a memorial service at 10:00 a.m.) on Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 6017 Camphor Street, Metairie, LA 70003. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Matthews' United Methodist Church in Mary's honor.
