Mary Venson Obituary

Mary Lee Venson was born March 26, 1938, in Woodville, Mississippi to the union of the late Lillian and Aaron Venson Sr. At the age of 86, Mary Venson went home to be with her Heavenly Father on June 4, 2024. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing. Mary was educated in the Mississippi Public School System, graduating from Johnson High School in Woodville, MS in 1959. After graduation, she then moved to New Orleans to live with her Grandmother Leola Russell. Mary attended Southern University in New Orleans and became employed by the New Orleans Country Club and worked there for over 50 years, retiring in 2019. Mary worked at the NOCC alongside her sisters Shirley V. Weber and Ruth Venson for many years. Mary loved her family and loved getting together for holiday dinners at her home. She was the matriarch of her family and could be counted on for her honesty and stability. She was not one for frivolity but would give a cheeky smile. Mary leaves behind three sisters, Ruth Venson, Shirley V. Weber (William) and Hilda Venson Markey (Gaylard) and two brothers, Abraham Venson and Aaron Venson Sr. (Diane). A host of nieces, nephews and supportive friends such as Jerry Dunbar. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lillian and Aaron Venson Sr.; 1 sister, Maude V. Williams and 2 brothers, Joseph Venson and Moses Venson. Relatives, Friends, Staff and Members of the New Orleans Country Club are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Interment will be held at Providence Memorial Park Cemetery, 8200 Airline Dr. Metairie, LA 70003.
