Mr. Cherenfant was truly an outstanding educator; but, more importantly, an outstanding role model. He had the demeanor of a true gentleman blessed with notable intellect and humility. He was kind and gave generously of his time and talents to his students who without doubt respected him and appreciated his effort. Proud to remember...

I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Cherenfant because he taught me 3 years of Latin. I chose to take Latin because I heard how great of a teacher he was. I soon learned that he was more than a teacher, he was a role model. He always had a smile on his face and loved talking about his family. He’s seen many things throughout his lifetime and I’m so blessed I was able to hear all about his life stories. His family is in my prayers and I know he is always watching over his students and family. He had such a pure heart and love for learning that I will forever be grateful for. He will be missed my many.

Mr. Cherenfant taught me Latin I and II at Hannan, and to say that he is the kindest man I’ve met is an understatement. Mr. Cherenfant deeply cared about his students and what he taught. I truly believe that if there was anyone else teaching this class it wouldn’t have been as impactful as Mr. Cherenfant made it. He wanted to see all his students succeed and somehow got me to care about the class and the information being taught. This man was my absolute favorite teacher and I truly enjoyed attending his class and miss it. Rest easy to not only a great teacher, but an even greater man.

Mr. Cherenfant taught me Latin I,II, and III at Archbishop Hannan, and he’s likely one of the kindest men I’ve ever met. It was because of this simple fact that his classes were so appealing. In high school, foreign language classes tend to be a blow off, but against all odds this man got me to care about Latin. In reality, the only reason I started to care was because I wanted him to see me succeed. Crazy what a teacher can do when they are quick to listen and radiate kindness through their work. I’m sure by the time I am 35 I will have forgotten everything I learned from Mr. Cherenfant about Latin, but the habits and disposition I saw this man exhibit every day is something that will teach me for the rest of my life. RIP Mathieu Cherenfant, a great teacher and even better man
