Melanie Cook Obituary

Our family is overcome with sadness to announce the passing of Melanie Jean Cook on Monday, March 6, 2023. Melanie was battling complications of COPD and CHF although we truly believe she died of a broken heart as she grieved her sister Elizabeth (aka Betsy) who had passed away recently. Melanie was born January 14, 1960 in Thibodaux, La. but spent most of her Life in TerryTown, La. Melanie was a social person who craved to always be around family and friends. Her school mates were attracted to Melanie's quirky sense of humor, good looks and spark for life and in middle school, voted her 'Best Personality'. As an adult, Melanie suffered with Mental Illness and turned to her creative side to cope by engaging in daily arts and crafts. She particularly enjoyed coloring, drawing, and painting which consumed most of her day providing internal peace and happiness. Melanie also found the simple joy in watching animals scurry around her back yard, particularly her sister's pet bunny. She is survived by her parents Van and Kathleen Cook, sister Caroline Cook, half sister Sally Smith, nieces and nephews whom she was proud of; Henry Gernhauser, Laura Durio, (Joey), Miles Durio, and Emily Durio. She is also survived by brother in law Thomas Hutchinson, and her very special aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her sisters Elizabeth Cook, and Stephanie Cook Hutchinson, and her grandmother Marie Coignet Beary. The family would like to thank Ochsner Hospital for their expertise and endless care and professionalism as well as Compassius Hospice for their attentiveness in the home. A private service will be held at St Joseph's Cemetery in Thibodaux where Melanie will be buried. Mothe Funeral Homes handled arrangements.
