Michael Navarre Obituary

Michael Lawrence Navarre, Jr., of Celebration, Florida, died peacefully on March 5, 2024, surrounded by family, shortly after being diagnosed with ALS. Mike was the devoted husband of Linda Matherne Navarre for over 54 years and the oldest child of Michael L. Navarre, Sr. and Barbara Landry Navarre. He was a 1969 graduate of Holy Cross High School in New Orleans. After an early career at Occidental Chemical in Taft, Louisiana, Mike and Linda purchased and operated the Ozone Motel in Mandeville for 25 years while raising their four sons. During his time in Mandeville, Mike loved coaching all manner of sports, which ultimately led him to becoming the head cross country coach at St. Paul's School in Covington, Louisiana. In his ten years of leading the Cross Country Wolves, he guided the team to four consecutive state championships. Shortly after selling the Ozone Motel in 2007, Mike and Linda relocated to central Florida. In Florida, they became active in the community of All Souls Catholic Church and spent much of their free time walking the streets of Disney World and sunning themselves at the beach. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Sr. and Barbara, and his brother, Emile. He is survived by his wife, Linda, his brother, Patrick, his sister, Jean, his four sons, Michael III, Marc, Eric and Brad, his ten grandchildren. In Mike's typical selfless fashion, there will be no services, but donations to the Team Gleason Foundation would be appreciated. Linda, it´s been many years since I´ve worked with Mike. When I first started at Occidental in 1974, they put me on Mikes shift. He taught me how to run/ operate the Sodium Chlorate unit (if fact coming off the street (after Viet Nam) , he taught me everything) on industry operations. He was so polite & true to earth taking his time above the norm to help me learn. After Mike left Oxy I felt lost but remembered the so many things he did. Our Christmas parties were great. May the lord bless him, you and family over this loss.

Linda and Family,
I´m so sorry for your loss. Mike was a silent hero to many families in the Mandeville area and especially my son, Robbie. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

My condolences, I worked under Mike for several summers at All Souls. He always showed up with an inspirational work ethic and once he warmed up to you, he always had something interesting to say. You could tell he loved his family and frequenting Disney with Linda and their grandkids. He´ll certainly be missed.

Our condolences from the Holy Cross School Class of 1969. Mike has been spoken of fondly by his teammates on the track team. It is heartwarming to learn of his life accomplishments at St. Paul´s as a husband and father and in his spiritual life. He was a true Holy Cross Man. Our prayers during this difficult time.
