Mignon Jumel, was one of the most beautiful women I had ever known. She was beautiful on the outside and beautiful on the inside, she loved to help people, she loved art and she loved children. I have only been around her a handful of times but those times I will forever cherish in my heart. She was my Aunt. I am named after her. My name is Mignon Jumel. I was always captivated by her smile and her beautiful eyes as they would twinkle when she talked. She always had a passion and enthusiasm when she talked about something she loved. I always wanted to be like her and wear my hair long and in a bun. My father loved her and talked about her often, the way they would perform flips on the beach and laugh and play. She was always very kind to me and sweet. When I came to New Orleans, I got to spend a few days with her, I will never forget her smile. I am very sad that she is gone and I know she will be missed. I believe in God and I know she is with my Dad. She lived a long life, full of giving. I am proud to be named after her. I will carry the name on. My prayers go out to the family, my family and others her knew her. The world was a better place with her in it. She will be missed. Mignon, I love you. God's Grace, Mignon Jumel.

My condolences to Dr. Jumels family. A true American hero! Such a brave woman to become a doctor in her generation. Though I didnt know her, I felt I had to write to thank her for her service to New Orleans and our nation, and being a pioneer for other woman to follow. May She rest in Peace with our Lord!

I admired Aunt Mignon for her strength of mind and character. In our family, I saw the result of her example in the hard work, professionalism, intelligence and stern compassion that she imparted to her niece, my step-mother, Cicily Simms. I took the time to visit her when I could and was always impressed by her tenacious will. I am very grateful to have known her and had the opportunity to visit with her from time to time. She helped many, many, many people in her life, and didn't ever back down.

I was sad to hear of Mignon's death. In addition to the many organization to which we both belonged, we shared a number of interests. She and I traveled together many times and my favorite memories of Paris are times I spent with her. She was a constant source of knowledge and good cheer on these trips. I will miss her.

Dear Shelley, Cicily and all the Jumel Cousins and their children,
Mingon was very special. She welcomed me into the family with open arms many a year ago. She came to visit Shelley and I in Washington DC and never got enough of the Smithsonian museums. Art was her love, next to being a doctor, of course. She was always full of stories and always had an ear to bend. She listened to any and everything with an open mind and heart. Mignon was a truly beautiful lady who offered many support and strength. When you dish out the chocolate ice cream, you must remember Mignon. That was her favorite thing.
My deepest condolences to you.
much love,

My sincerest heartfelt sympathy to the family of Dr. Mignon Jumel. It was truly a privilege to have known her, and worked for her at L.S.U. Medical School. She was a delightful, wonderful person for whom I had so much respect. During the five years working for her, I can't remember ever seeing her without that infectious smile. Never did I see her angry. She was a very special human being, always so very kind and friendly. Enjoyed our daily chats -- she was such an intelligent, humorous, and interesting person. She loved her family so much -- would speak of you so fondly. May your memories of the time you had with her be of comfort as you grieve her passing. She definitely has earned her Eternal Reward! I certainly will not forget her.

Women Veterans of Louisiana is saddened to learn of the demise of Dr. Jumel. She was a lady who answered the call of her country's need and blazed the trail for those of us who followed in her footsteps. We salute her courage and her patriotism. We offer our sincere condolences to her family.
She is a woman veteran
Whose service was true
She proudly served
The Red, White and Blue
She gave a part of her life
So others could be free
Without any hesitation
She joined unselfishly
She did her job well
With honor and pride
And served her great country
With the men alongside
We're proud today to know
That although she is gone
She goes on to glory
After a job well done
And so, "Our Dear Sister"
We salute you today
A special sailor laid to rest
In this quiet, solemn way
Words inspired by God and written by
