Natalie Lara Obituary

Natalie Gallo Lara, who was born and raised in New Orleans, died on March 9, 2022 at the age of 46, of complications after surgery. Natalie loved New Orleans food and culture but hated the foolishness that often came with it. She is survived by her husband Jay Lara and father CJ Gallo, as well as family and an extensive circle of friends and is predeceased by her mother, Carmen Beninato Gallo and her grandparents. Natalie was a veterinary technician who never met an animal she did not like-she enjoyed working with livestock and large animals. Despite being able to make friends everywhere she went, she didn't like people all that much. Natalie was a writer and an artist of vivid imagination and had the ability to bring color and life to any room with just a few strokes of a pen, the more brightly colored, the better. Natalie had the rare talent of speaking her mind without alienating people. She used her ability to create the perfect playlist for any situation and had an uncanny ability to quote extensively from rock music and pop movies and tv to find common ground with everyone. She remembered small details that made people feel important. Batman is the better superhero; friendship requires cheesecake and honesty; and family is who shows up on the bad days even faster than on the good. Once you were family, it was for life. Memorial details are still being worked out, but Natalie believed orange and yellow didn't get enough love, so we are all pulling out our warm colors for the event. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to MidCity Mutt Mamas (www.midcitymutt.com).

I miss you every day. I promise I´ll make sure Mocha Latte is educated in the important things in life, like dragons and unicorns and magic. It won´t be the same, but it will be something. I love you.

I love you, and I always will. I miss you, and I always will.
I don't think I will ever stop talking to you and breaking my heart a little bit because you can't answer back. I won't cry because once I start I don't think I will ever stop.
Every part of my life is better because you were a part of it. I love you, always.

Natalie was my externship evaluator a few years ago for school. Even after my externship was over, we kept in touch. She let me ask vet tech related questions as I continued school, but many times we'd just message back and forth about completely random stuff. Though our friendship was always long-distance, I'm so thankful to have known Natalie.

I worked with Natalie at Penn Foster. She was a faculty evaluator for our vet tech degree program, part of the New Orleans girls hired by Dr. Jim Hurrell. I am so sad to hear of her passing. We never met personally but we had some good email conversations. My condolences to all of her family, friends, and beloved pets.

My first memory of Natalie was at the Palace theater where I 1st worked at. She was one of my supervisors there at the time I started and also worked with a couple of my cousins there as well, so I was accepted as part of her crew, fun times had by all. My last memory of her was for my cousin Melissa's wedding a few years ago...even though we hadn't seen each other in years, as soon as she saw me it was like the good times and memories were there as if we never lost touch. I would always remember to wish her happy birthday and even though she is no longer here, the memories will be there forever. Thanks for everything Natalie.

Natalie is one of my best friends. Friends for 22yrs. We met at the Palace theatre. We were movie critics, "face huggers", Solo fanatics, Potterheads, etc. She taught me that Batman was a true hero. She was my go to friend to vent about the illness we shared. She understood completely. We could talk about anything w/o judgment. She accepted me for me. She leaves LEGENDARY PLAYLISTS AND CDs to keep me company. She taught me that all the colors mattered, including orange. She made me a furr mama. A decision I will never regret. Falcor and Manchis love you. I had a blast in every car ride, Donut show atttended, and every Jack Daniels bottle and cheesecake (or brownie) we consumed. I am going to miss you SO much. We were "demented and sad, but social." I will make sure to take care of Jay.

I met Natalie while working with her at the Palace Movie Theatre in 1997. We realized we had family connections and we always joked that we were "almost" family. We shared so many great times- parties at the apartment she and Liz shared, going to after work screenings of new movies, and even just hanging out in the parking lot until 4 a.m. after we all got off of work. We had some great times and I often think about those years as some of the best years of my life and she was a big part of that time.

I first met Natalie while working together at the Palace movie theater. Just a few things that standout were after work parties at her and Liz´s house, quickly being roped in as one of her "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" even though it was for the updated Palace version, discussing all things music, movies, and Batman, and just generally enjoying the time spent with our crew. I still believe our adventures would have made a great movie. Over the years we would lose contact but would always manage to keep in touch with a quick message checking in to see how life was going. Even though she is gone way too soon, she left a forever lasting impact on my life and many others.

I never had the privilege of meeting Natalie. She was an assigned mentor to me about 5 years ago through Penn Foster College. From her opening email introducing herself to me, it felt like I had known her for years. She offered her assistance wherever she could, coursework related or not. I frequently go back to some words of advice Natalie gave me during a particularly difficult time of my life, and I will always remember them. I took her up on her offer to talk about non-coursework related topics more than once, but the first time I spoke with her about life, I was battling depression. They say it's sometimes easier to open up to someone you don't know, and I'm so blessed to have had Natalie be there for me at the time. She told me she was already incredibly proud because instead of "suffering" from depression, I was "fighting" it - "battling". I go back to that conversation often, and I could never thank her enough for those words. I hope she knows how much she helped, and how many lives she had an effect on.
