Pat Peyton Obituary

Pat Michael Peyton, 60, passed away on April 10, 2018. He was a native of New Orleans, born November 22, 1957. His family relocated to Houston, TX, for several years when he was young, but eventually returned home where he spent the rest of his life with family and friends. Pat graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School in May 1975, and on September 18 of that year he joined the New Orleans Police Department. His career in law enforcement was diverse, obtaining the rank of Sergeant, member of the Street Crimes Unit, Dive Rescue Team, SWAT and Hostage Recovery Unit, Commander of the Pawn Shop Unit, Supervisor of Child Abuse Unit, and a primary member of the Public Information Office. He was also Commander of the Arson Unit at the time of the Cabildo fire in 1988 and was the expert witness in the pursuant legal case. He was also a day-watch supervisor in the 8'h District from 2003-2005 and Commander of the NOPD Gaming Unit, simultaneously. Mr.Peyton was an active member of the Police Association of New Orleans, the Fraternal Order of Police, and after 31years of dedicated service to the Department and to the City of New Orleans,he retired as a decorated law enforcement officer. In his youth, Mr.Peyton learned from his maternal grandfather how to handle a boat and a rod and reel and spent many summers on Mobile Bay with his grandparents and cousins. He also learned from his grandfather, wisdom, leadership, and how to be a stabilizing force for others, traits he hoped to pass on to his children, Addy and James, who were his passion, his pride and his joy. He relished in all they achieved, and their unconditional love and support helped sustain him, especially in his last few weeks. Mr.Peyton is preceded in death by his father, Lee Braughn Peyton, and his brother Lee Edward Peyton. He is survived by his mother, Catherine Fraiche Peyton McKay, daughter, Hannah Adler Peyton, son, James Mickal Peyton, brother Tim P. Peyton and his wife,Karla, and nieces Leslie P. Kovesdi, Emily P. Abadie, and Olivia M. Peyton. He also leaves behind his cousins with whom he grew up with, sharing many adventures and memories. Mr. Peyton wished to thank all of the men and women of the New Orleans Police Department, all his partners "on the job," and all those who helped him with The Tommy Philips Open, a golf tournament he helped found to aid the families of policemen killed in the line of duty. All held a special place in his heart. The Peyton family wishes to thank Dr. Frank Rabito, who has been a friend and medical advisor, above and beyond the call of duty, for so many years. Pat also wished to express his thanks and sincere love to his brother, Tim, who took care of so much for him for so long. Visitation will be held at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Catherine and her 3 boys, Lee, Pat, Tim, were always an inspiration to how I helped raise my 3 nephews. It worked. The two oldest always are there for their youngest brother.
My heart breaks for Catherine and her family. I know the intense love they share will extend far beyond the grave. It is my never ceasing prayer that they will continue to feel the deep love and much comfort from Jesus as He keeps His arms around you all, tight, tight.

What a wonderful person, his kindness and smile will be missed. Pat was full of life and brought joy to the hearts of those who met him. I ask that the Lord watch over his family as they go through this time of loss. The Lord now has another angel to watch the heavens above.
