Paul DeBrock Jr. Obituary

Our beloved father Paul D. DeBrock, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, October 6, 2024, at the age of 91. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Bendix DeBrock. He was born in Jackson, Mississippi on June 23, 1933. After spending his childhood years in Jackson and Meridian Mississippi, the family made the move to the New Orleans area. Paul attended F. T. Nicholls High School where he played trumpet as a member of the High School band. After High School, he did some additional education at Loyola University before joining the Louisiana National Guard 141st Washington Artillery unit. He served in this Unit with pride and earned the ranking of Sergeant 1st Class where he was awarded the title of Soldier of the year in 1958. Paul always enjoyed sharing his service stories and had an avid love of history and geography. He met the love of his life, Joan, when they both worked together at Gulf Oil Company and were married on September 7, 1957. The two raised their family in the Gentilly area of New Orleans and ultimately moved to the Northshore in 2003 to be closer to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. After leaving Gulf Oil, Paul worked in the data processing departments for Data Processing Center, D.H. Holmes and the University of New Orleans, from where he retired. Paul served as the President of the Data Processing Management Association in 1982 and served as an Election Commissioner for Orleans Parish for many years. He always looked forward to attending his annual Fall Manresa retreats and volunteered as an usher for many years at Most Holy Trinity Church in Covington and enjoyed serving his Parish. He was a big sports fan and loved attending or watching both the local Saints and the Pelicans games. Above all, he loved the outdoors, playing cards, gardening and family and had a very easy disposition, seldom complaining about anything. He leaves behind his children, Thomas DeBrock (Kim) and Elizabeth DeBrock Burkenstock (Ross), five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Lorraine DeBrock and Marion Edgar, brother Robert DeBrock, mother Louise Miller DeBrock and father Paul D. De Brock, Sr. During his final years, several dedicated people helped to provide comfort and care for Paul. The family would like to give special thanks to his care providers, notably the entire staff of Trinity Trace and homecare providers Ellen, Beth Naquin, Que, Toni and Suzette. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 15th at Most Holy Trinity Church in Covington, LA, with visitation from 10:00am – 12:00pm, followed by a memorial Catholic mass then burial at the Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans.
