I just found out of Paul's passing. I'm truly saddened. Paul and I both did our Internal Medicine residency at LSUMC in Shreveport. He was one year ahead of me. He was my supervising resident in my second month as a young, untrained, ignorant, and probably, dangerous, intern. Of course, Paul and I worked together many times after that month, as well leaving me many fond memories. He was kind, caring and fair. He demanded a lot from me, but no more than he demanded from himself. He had an unwavering devotion to medicine and his patients. He was loyal to everything LSU. One needs to remember that being an LSU fan was very challenging back then as we didn't have the succcess then we do now. I remember how Paul always looked forward to Mardi Gras. In later years, Paul was a reliable consulting MD for me. He never turned away a phone call from me about a patient nor declined to accept one of my patients in transfer. That's a rarity now days. I know of many patients of mine where his care truly saved their life. Please accept my belated condolences. Be assured you had a beloved husband, father and grandfather. May peace be with you.

I am so sorry to hear about Paul' s passing. He and his family were our next door neighbors and he and my brother best friends in the old neighborhood long before he went to medical school. We still have old 8 mm movies of them as kids having a sleepover. My sympathies to his wife and kids, and to Missy and Miss Jenelle.

I am sad to learn of Dr Schuler's passing. He was a very dedicated physician. I was scared crazy November 2018 when after heart surgery I developed multiple PEs in my lungs. Then Dr Schuler appeared in my room and took command of the situation. He gave me peace that he was going to do his part for my recovery. I pray for his wife and children. please accept my sincere condolences.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I worked at Office Deport and when he came in we talked . About a month ago I had to see about my CT scan. I asked him if he knew who I was and he said you work at Office Depot. The lady up at the front desk said he remembers everybody. He asked me about my medical history and went above and beyond to print 3 things for me to read about my condition .RIP Dr. Schuler. I will miss you. Sending prayers for your family and all that loved you.

I am so saddened to read of the loss of Dr. Schuler. I worked ICU & CCU at Helen Keller Hospital when Dr. Schuler first came to Sheffield, AL. He was not one to mince words but cared very deeply for his patients. I was reminiscing / laughing fondly-just a few days ago with a fellow RN, how he came walking (at his BRISK pace), into CCU, shoved his hands into his labcoat pockets & said OK- which of you are responsible for picking up on that (pretty hard to spot sometimes arrhythmia), on Mr. So & So - i shyly raised my hand ( feeling like a lamb to the slaughter as he spoke gruffly & didnt crack a smile)- he broke into a grin & said great job - keep it up... Not every MD shares credit. I treasure this memory & lift up sincere prayers of comfort & peace to his wife & children. What a loss to the Pulmonary field. Angie Woodis, RN

What an amazing physician. He took care of my husband for 23 days while on life support in ICU. He spent extra time with my daughter in the room showing her x-rays to help her understand what was going on and helped calm her fears. He was so very quiet and calm, yet still had a strength in his knowledge and bedside manner that we could feel as we struggled to have hope. What a great loss to this medical community.

My Daddy went in on January 31, 2013 to have a knee replacement and did well through surgery but when he was brought to his room his breathing was not right. He coded and Dr. Schuler was at the nurses station by devine appointment. They called him and he went to ICU for 10 days. Dr. Schuler was with us every step of the way. He helped us to keep our Daddy here. He would show up late some nights but he always checked on him no matter what time it was. He will be surely missed! Praying for his family!!

I got some horrible news today in my follow up. Dr. Schuler was the first real doctor I had. I considered him my primary care doctor. He's the the one who diagnosed me BOOP after 3 long weeks of trying to figure out what was going on with me. He showed me how to read my chest x-rays when it came to my lungs. He always remembered that I used to work at Dollar Tree and would tell me his wife loves to shop there.
When I ended up in the hospital for my Lupus, I called him at 4:55 PM and left a message on his voicemail, and by 5:10 PM he came bursting into my room saying Ms MillsPage, what's going on?! like he always did.
I was just in the hospital for breathing issues on the night of the 12th of Feb, and the next day he was right there Ms MillsPage, what's going on?! And I would always reply, I don't know! I was just fine.
So to hear that you have left us, and I just saw you is saddening, and I don't understand. You've been in my life for 10 years consecutively. Always caring for me like I was in your family since I was 22. You're family.
Dr Schuler, I always talked about you and always shared our laughs. You will be missed more than you could ever know. Thank you for always caring for me.
Love always,
Celena M.

We were so fortunate to have Dr. Schuler as our mothers pulmonary physician for the last nine years of her life. During that time, he provided outstanding medical care and exhibited unlimited compassion and patience to our mother. But Dr. Schuler also provided guidance, comfort, timely advice, and sometimes much needed laughter to our family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Shreveport has truly lost one of its best and most caring doctors.

I am heartbroken over the passing of Dr Schuler. He was a very caring and devoted physician. I will never forget the evening that I was very ill and went into his office. He and his nurse took me to Willis Knighton Pierremont. He stayed with me in the emergency room, and once I was admitted he stayed with me until 12:00 that evening to be sure that I was going to make it through the night. I will never forget him and my heart is saddened and grieved over his passing. I was so very blessed to have known Dr Schuler for he was one of the most caring, devoted physicians I have ever known. I will miss him terribly. I thank God for the privilege of knowing him. May you rest in peace Dr Schuler. You will be missed by many.

Dr. Schuler was indeed an amazing doctor, who cared deeply for his patients and devoted time. He saved my life, literally, when I was in the hospital in 2013 . He always came to see me in the hospital every night, no matter how late. I was in for 23 days plus some. He will be sorely missed in Shreveport. When I moved to Missouri in 2015 he hoped I would find a better pulmonologist than him, I haven't.

This was my fathers doctor when he had his stroke. He took a great interest in my fathers case in care, including being at the hospital with him at all hours of the day and night. He was caring and compassionate and was my parents primary physician until he returned to New Orleans to practice. My family always said Dr. Schuler saved my fathers life. RIP Dr. Schuler. Your family will be in my prayers.

Words cannot express the sadness I feel for the loss of my former boss, mentor, and friend Dr. Paul Schuler! As his former hospital nurse from 2006-2008 I worked closely with him day after day and learned invaluable things about critical care and pulmonary medicine. He even helped guide me and my family when my father in law was succumbing to Pulmonary Fibrosis. Dr. Schuler was a dedicated physician, working endless hours going out his way for his patients and they adored him! He was honest, unpretentious, and did not mince words....for that his patients really loved him. To his wife, children, colleagues and office staff my heart is heavy for you all! God Bless you Dr. Schuler! I will forever be grateful for the opportunities you gave me and for my time with the practice!!

Dear Mrs, Schuler, children and family. My heart goes out to you all. I understand a broken heart, nut God is still the healer. Thank you for your sacrifices, I first meet your wonderful husband and father last April when I was in the hospital at Christi's Highland in bad shape André Dr. Schuler was set to me by God, and there is no doubt. I was about to loose my life and because of his knowledge and bedside manor Praise God I'm still here today and doing great. God bless you all.

He was a wonderful man and a very accomplished Physician. I loved his life attitude and appreciate his detail of knowledge across the spectrum of the medical profession. I owe much to him as he has kept my COPD at bay now for many years. He had a bedside manner of comfort that was unrivaled. He will truly be missed by me and other members of my family who were patients of his. Thank you Lord for your blessings on many through his service. God bless all his patients and God a special blessing on his Wife and children.

I am so sorry to hear this about Dr. Schuler. I got to know him because he treated my daddy for lung cancer, which he passed away in 2010, and I started seeing him few years later for shortness of breath. He was a great Doctor and he had great bed side manners which we all loved about him. My heart and prayers go out to the family.
