Philippa D'Alfonso Obituary

Philippa Amantia D'Alfonso passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the age of 104 years old. Known to many as Philly, Aunt Phil, or Maw-Maw. Born on October 31, 1919, in Gulfport, Mississippi and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana at the age of 4 years. She was raised in the Italian Section of the French Quarter, lived in New Orleans and her later years in Metairie, Louisiana. Philippa was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. D'Alfonso. Daughter of the late Salvatore Amantia and the late Francesca Giacomazzo Amantia. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gaetana Ovalle (Manuel), Rosie Bacino (Jimmy) and Francis Glynn (Billy). Loving mother of Anthony D'Alfonso (Anne), Salvador D'Alfonso and Phyllis D. Chauvin (Allen). Grandmother to Brian J. D'Alfonso (Amy) and Brad A. D'Alfonso. Great grandmother to Ainsley, Austin, Matthew, Collin, Aubrey, and the late Hope. She ran track and was in the spelling bee contest at McDonough 15 school. She was very patient and easy-going, and loved to sing while she worked or cooked. She never complained about anything, just a good ole soul who lived a good and long life. She will be missed by all. A very special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and assistants at East Jefferson General Hospital for their care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services. Visitation will be on Friday, April 12, 2024, at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 4317 Richland Avenue, Metairie, Louisiana 70002 from 11:00 a.m. until 12 noon. A Funeral Mass will take place at 12 noon followed by interment in St. Louis #3 Cemetery, 3421 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70119. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Philippa's name to Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 1525, Ranson, WV 25438.
