Richard Schornstein Obituary

Richard Schornstein Jr., age 93, died peacefully at home on October 3, 2021. A native New Orleanian, he was a successful businessman whose career spanned some 70 years. He loved building relationships with his clients locally and throughout the United States as a trusted, expert financial planning advisor. Richard was known by all for his intense curiosity, intellect, energy, determination and warmth. Richard rarely met a problem he couldn't solve or a person he didn't make a lasting impression on with his stories, shining eyes and wide smile. Richard's pride and joy were his family. He considered his marriage of 66 years to his best friend and love of his life, Florence, his crowning achievement. Together they raised 3 daughters, travelled extensively and supported many causes in the New Orleans community. Richard loved and doted on his 3 girls who returned his affection unconditionally. As Grampy, Richard adored each of his 5 grandchildren and was so proud of every one of their accomplishments. Richard attended Washington and Lee University, served in the Louisiana National Guard, was Board President of Visiting Nurses Association and a life member of The Million Dollar Round Table for financial professionals. He is predeceased by his parents Richard Schornstein and Sarah Alcus Schornstein, his sisters Ann Corenswet and Felicia Kahn and his daughter Wendy Good. He is survived by his wife, Florence Weiland Schornstein, his daughters Susan Haskell and Ellen Williams (David G. Williams) and his grandchildren, Allison Good, Emily Good, Hannah Williams, Benjamin Williams and Matthew Haskell. The Schornstein family thanks Claudia Todaro for her loyalty, friendship and service as Richard's assistant for over 50 years. Many thanks to each of Richard's caregivers and all who supported him with compassion and care. Funeral services will be held on October 7, 2021 at Temple Sinai, 6227 St. Charles Avenue, at 11:00 AM. Friends and family may visit from 10:30 AM until the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Temple Sinai or an organization of your choice.
