Richard Windhorst Obituary

Richard Edward "Bubba" Windhorst Jr., loving and devoted husband of Jo-Ann Stiebing Windhorst, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024, after a long hard fight with Alzheimer's. He was the son of the late Richard Windhorst, Sr. and Jennie Motto Windhorst. Bubba was preceded in death by his two siblings, brother Senator Fritz Windhorst and sister, Angie Windhorst Tripkovich. Bubba is survived by his wife and three children, Richard E. Windhorst III (Jan), Keith "Meaux" Windhorst and Terri Windhorst Robbins (Rick). He is the proud grandfather of Richard Windhorst, IV (Kelly), Amanda Robbins Theriot-Greenwell (Thaddeus), Blake Windhorst (Blair), Melissa Robbins Korn (Garrett), Kimberly Windhorst Rideout (Gage), and Nicole Robbins. His greatest joy was his family, including 11 great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Connor, Clark, Katherine, Abraham, Zoey, Connor Gage, Claire, Theo, Weston and Ellie Rose. Bubba's whole life was dedicated to his family, faith and freedom. His motto was "Family is not everything, it's the ONLY Thing!" A devout Catholic, born and raised in the New Orleans, he was a graduate of the Redemptorist High School class of 1955, where he was dubbed the skinniest running back in school history! It is also the place where he met the true love of his life, Jo-Ann Cecelia Stiebing with whom he would share 67 years of marriage. Upon graduation, he began his long career with the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, first as a deputy clerk, then working his way up to becoming the Clerk of Court in 1992. He loved the opportunity to not only serve the Judges, the Bar and his coworkers, but he also found immense pleasure and pride in assisting anyone who needed his help. Bubba was a long-standing member and treasurer of the Irish Channel Marching Club, serving as 1995 Man of the Year, and with whom he paraded every St. Patrick's Day. Besides vacations with his wife and family, his favorite hobby was crabbing with his son Keith and numerous family and friends. His true sports love was his beloved Tulane Green Wave. His love, humor, wit, and knowledge were an inspiration to his family and friends. Family and friends are invited to attend services on Sept. 6 at St. Rita's Church in Harahan, 7100 Jefferson Hwy., Harahan, LA 70123. Visitation will start at 10:30 a.m. with a mass following at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association (www.act.alz.org) and/or the Steve Gleason ALS Foundation (www.teamgleason.org). The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation for the loving care, especially from Tonya Graner, Michelle Ed and the wonderful caring team of Notre Dame Hospice.

So sorry to see Bubba go. He was one fine man that devoted his life to perfection. When we served on the St Pat's Board Bubba always wanted things to go according to plan. If it did not he still kept moving forward with a positive attitude. He will be missed. Rest in Peace, Bubba. Love!
