Rita Peters Obituary

Rita Ruth Larkins Peters departed this life to be with her heavenly father on November 9, 2021 at the age of 77. Born to the late Fellman and Desedemona Larkins on July 15, 1944, in Plaquemine, Louisiana, Rita graduated from Walter L. Cohen Senior High School in New Orleans in 1962 and went on to attend Dillard University's School of Nursing to pursue her lifelong commitment to helping others. She subsequently moved to Los Angeles, California, where she completed her degree in 1974. Rita was a nurturer and full of compassion that showed in her choice of profession. She was a Registered Nurse with a heart of gold, who helped anyone and everyone, but she had a special affinity for geriatric care. Rita leaves to cherish her memory her heartbeat, her only daughter, Regina Maynard Stripling; two grandsons, Keith Michael Maynard and Ryan Rene Stripling; one great-granddaughter, Aubree Skye; one sister, Valencia Wyman; two brothers, Fellman Larkins Jr. and Bruce E. Larkins; and a host of nieces and nephews. She also was a doting mama to her beloved dog, King. Family and friends, employees of Orleans Parish Schools and those who worked for Christian Home Health are invited to attend her homegoing services on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 10 a.m. at St. John Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, 2538 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

I´m so sad to hear of Peters´ passing. She was one of my favorite Nursing Supervisors when I worked as a Public Health Nurse in the city´s Well-Baby Clinics. She was always kind, caring and loving to all, with a constant smile on her face, due to laughter. I offer sincere condolences to her Daughter and Family. She was an Angel here on Earth.
