Robert Leake Obituary

Robert Edward Leake, Jr. of Covington, Louisiana, 94, died on March 16. He was born in Lake Charles, LA, to Robert E. Leake and Marie Landry Leake, and was married to Frances Lee Fields and then to Martha Ellis Lea. He is survived by his children Robert E. Leake III, Victoria Kennedy, William Fields Leake, and Rebekah Winters, stepson Paul Lea and stepdaughter Janet Lea Street, and by five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Bob graduated from the School of Law at LSU, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma and of the 1945 LSU golf team. He served many years on the Law School Board of Alumni Trustees and was named LSU Law Center Alumnus of the Year for 1996. He followed Tiger football and baseball with a passion and loved his university. His distinguished law career in New Orleans lasted 59 years, and he retired in 2007 from the firm of Leake and Andersson. He served the profession as president of the New Orleans Bar Association, Executive Committee member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, and delegate to the American Bar Association. He was also president of the International Association of Defense Counsel and was named Lawyer of the Year by the Louisiana Bar Foundation. Bob was a devoted golfer and especially cherished his membership in the "R.O.B.s" of Tchefuncta Country Club. From an early age, he loved the outdoors and became an avid bird watcher and gardener. He loved to dig, to plant, and to pluck the blooms of life. Above all, his heart was "filled with the sound of music." He expressed his lifelong love of singing by performing in college musicals, in the New Orleans Opera Association Chorus, and in church choirs. After moving to Christwood retirement community in Covington, he organized and led the Christwood Singers and gave informal talks on opera. He was dearly loved and respected by his family; he loved his fellow man and lived with vigor; he trusted to the benevolence of God. A celebration of life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, Covington, on Monday, March 21 at 11 a.m. with interment at Lake Lawn Cemetery, Metairie, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Orleans Opera Endowment Fund or to the charity of your choice.

BARRY HARRISON

April 8, 2023

Robert E Leake was my second cousin - his mother, Alice, was sister to my grandfather Joseph Harrison, who left Kendal, UK and arrived in Auystralia on Jan 1, 1883.Alice marriewd Robert Leake and they left the UK and settled in Lake Cjarles LA. During my family research on Ancestry.com I had troubnle finding Alice but eventually, my daughter Dian e did more research in nthe UK and found Robert Jnr in New Orleans. We met up in that city and met Robert and his late wife Martha and had a marvellous luinch in Bourbon Street.
Robert was so excited to find his Australian relatives. I tried reaching hime over the last two years but there were no replies to my emails and I know he was not in the bestr of health in recent years,
God rest his soul and sincere co0ndolences from me and my family. Robert served the legal community for 59 years and his contribution will long be remembered.
Family members please comntact me when you have time and tell me about his last few years.
I am deeply sorry for his loss. I too am in the early Winter stages of my life - I am 91 years old - but I am in good health and have lots of good peoiple around me.
Sincerely
BARRY HARRISON

I only knew Mr Leake for a few days, yet after the first day, I felt like I had known him forever. We spent a lot of time talking, well, he spent a lot of time talking, I spent a lot of time listening. He was kind and so knowledgeable, He sang opera to me in a few different languages and it warmed my heart. He told me stories of cases he had trialed and talked highly of his children and grandchildren. In just 4 few days, he touched my heart. I´m so sorry for the families loss. I will truly always remember him.

Rest In Peace My Friend

March 18, 2022

I was fortunate enough to grow up around the corner from Uncle Bob. His son , robin , was my best friend, we were inseparable, and Uncle Bob was my second father, complete with spanking priveleges. Uncle Bob taught me how to ride a bike. He was a kind and good person. This world has lost one of its very best, and i am very sad.
God Bless Uncle Bob, and the entire Leake family, Robin, Vicky, Fields, and Becky.
