Roy Alberts Obituary

Roy Raymond Alberts passed away peacefully on December 2, 2022 at the age of 89. He was born on May 5, 1933 to Percy Francis Alberts and Irene Rodriquez Alberts, and was raised by his very loving Aunt Florence "Cully" Alberts. He often said the happiest day of his life was the day he married his beloved Myrtle Marie Keppler; they were married for over 62 years at the time of her passing in 2019. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by all of his siblings: Louis Alberts, Elwood Alberts, Joyce Fanelli, Alfred "Toby" Alberts, Harry Alberts, Harold "Mookie" Alberts, and Elizabeth "Betty" Marchioni. He is survived by his five children and their spouses: Rebecca "Becky" (Mike) Quinn, Lisa (Noel) Darce, Lloyd (Laura) Alberts, John (Caroline) Alberts, and Kathleen (John) Kazour; his ten grandchildren: Caitlin Quinn, Nathan (Elisabeth) Darce, Dr. Matthew Darce, Melissa Darce, Brandon Darce, Joseph Alberts, Amelia Alberts, Nicole Kazour, Charles Kazour and Christopher Kazour; and one great-grandchild Jack Keppler Darce. Roy was a proud graduate of St. Aloysius High School, Louisiana State University with a Bachelors of Science degree, and Loyola University with a Masters of Business Administration. He was awarded the outstanding Catholic award by the Newman Club of LSU in 1955. Roy was a devout Catholic and served on several Archdiocesan boards including the Advisory Board to Archbishop Hannan and the Human Relations Committee. He was a teacher and principal in the CCD programs at St. Robert Bellarmine and St. Matthias parishes for a combination of 25 years. He was a member of the Serra Club of Downtown New Orleans where he served as President and Governor and served on the International Board. Roy was a Man of Manresa for 60 plus years. He was a long-time volunteer for the Archbishop's Community Appeal for the Catholic Charities of New Orleans and was honored to be a recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medal for outstanding Catholic service. In his professional career, Roy was a Vice President of Sales at Orleans Materials and Equipment Co. for 40 years. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Touro for their compassionate care during Roy's recent illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 12:00 PM with visitation from 10:00 AM until Mass time at The National Votive Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, 2701 State Street, New Orleans, LA. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery #2, Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, P.O. Box 58009, New Orleans, LA 70158-8009 (www.ccano.org) or a charity of your choice.

I will think of Roy every time I hear the St. Michael prayer. At the end of mass at the Shrine, he would always lead the congregation with his deep, booming voice. I had the privilege of meeting him earlier this year at the Shrine, and he was always so kind. May God bless him and your family always. I am praying for you all, and I hope that even in the sadness, your family has the wonderful hope of seeing him again in heaven.

May God's promise found in John 6:40, of the hope to see our loved ones again, comfort your heart and give you peace, strength, and hope in the days ahead.

On behalf of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association and Brother Martin High School, I offer our prayers and condolences. We will say a Mass in his memory.

Father of all, we pray to you for Roy, and all those we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetually shine upon them. May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

My condolences to the family and friends of Roy Alberts. I met Roy and his wife Myrtle through the "thinking man's book club"that both of us belonged. Roy had a keen mind and shared what he knew with others. Often he hosted the book club and Myrtle hosted the meetings, they were wonderful occasions and both he and his wife will be missed. I will miss his political view points most of all.

Roy was a always a perfect gentlemen and more than willing to help anyone in need. Whenever Roy spoke to folks he had a genuine interest in them. I worked with Roy prior to his retirement many years ago and remember him fondly.
