Salem Kalil David Jr.

DAVID Salem Kalil David Jr., widower of Joy Theriot David, died Sunday, September 23, 2012, in Tuscaloosa, AL at the age of 85. Born May 12, 1927, in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Salem Kalil David and Margaret David Joseph, and the stepson of the late Joseph Souma Joseph of Summerton, SC. He lived in Summerton, SC until he attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He also attended Georgetown University. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Salem raised his family in New Orleans, LA and is survived by five children, Margaret David Laborde (Cliffe) of Lafayette, LA , Dr. Salem Kalil David, Jr. (Marianne) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Emme David Cossich (Dimetry) of Covington, LA, Romeal Kalil David (Laura) of Manning and Joy David Roach of New Orleans, LA, twelve grandchildren, Collins Swords, Salem Kalil David IV, Kathryn David, Christopher David, William David, Andrew David, Dimetry Cossich Jr., Elizabeth-Lee Cossich, Joseph Cossich, Matthew David, Paul Roach and Margaret Roach, and one sister, Shirley Casey. He was preceded in death by one child, Christine Kalil David (Moonie). A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Summerton with Rev. Charles Walsh officiating. Burial will follow in Summerton Evergreen Cemetery. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of West Alabama and its staff for their compassion and care.
