Sammy Braddy Sr.

1947 - 2022

Sammy Lee Braddy Sr. died on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, in the heart of the Central Business District of his most beloved city, New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born on October 20, 1947, in Crystal Springs, Mississippi to the late Med Lee and Bertie Lee Braddy. He attended Mc Donogh 40 Elementary and then Carver Senior High School. He then began what turned into a career as a butcher at Schwegmann Brothers at the Gentilly Road location where he retired after more than 20 years. In April 1966 he was joined in Holy Matrimony with the late Deo Marie Nash Braddy Booker. To this union was born one (1) son and one (1) daughter. They later divorced and Sammy was never remarried. Sammy Lee was preceded in death by his only son Sammy Lee Braddy Jr., his father, Med Lee, his mother, Bertie Lee, four (4) sisters, Virgie Lee, Myrtis Lee, Hattie Bell and Reponza. Also preceding him in death were three (3) brothers, RC, MB, and Alcee. He leaves to cherish his memory; a heartbroken daughter, Sabrina Braddy, Two (2) sisters, Mary Braddy and Linda Young, of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, Two (2) brothers, Lawrence Braddy and Jimmy Lee Braddy, six (6) grandchildren, Sam Hoffman, Latoya Reese, Khalid Bynoe, Bajha Braddy, Evieh-Bijan Osaren and Kofi Osaren, five (5) great grandchildren, Zaria-Heart, Nathaniel, Skylar, Christany, and a newborn, Christopher Zayn Zaire Reese. He also leaves to mourn a darling Goddaughter, Marlina Rock, along with a host of favored and beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, friends, and acquaintances. Also, warmest regards to his friends Ms. Barbara Burthlong and family who received Sammy as one of their own for many years. Thank you all for your kind gestures. We will forever love and miss him. May his soul rest in Paradis. Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at The Boyd Family Funeral Home, 5001 Chef Menteur Hwy., New Orleans, LA 70127 for 10:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Robert Brown officiating.
