Selita Harris-Simmons

1971 - 2023

Selita Harris-Simmons was born June 29, 1971, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Daniel Lenoir and Gloria Harris Lenoir Fernandez. Selita lived all her life as a proud and well-respected Orleanian. Selita was a proud graduate of George Washington Carver High School, and afterwards continued her education to become a certified bus driver for the Greater New Orleans Area Public School Systems, through her employer KANDS Transportation, for many years. Selita accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of My Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church (New Orleans, La.) under the leadership of Pastor Shateek Nobles Sr., along with her family and close friends. On May 29, 2022, Selita married Curtis ""Kite"" Simmons and together they united their families through acts of love and continued support until his death. With love, ambition, passion and compassion for others, Selita was known as a culinary queen to her family, friends, associates and several business owners and organizations in the Greater New Orleans Area. She was an amazing cook and community servant. Selita was also known as "The Life of the Party"", A Casual Singer, A Supportive Mother, A Loving Grandmother, An Amazing Sister, An Encouraging Aunt, A Lover of Kids, and A Great Friend to Many. Selita Harris-Simmons, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at her home in Slidell, Louisiana on Friday, April 14, 2023. Selita is survived by her children: Darnell Harris (LaToya), Ryan Harris, and Danielle Catchings; Stepchildren: Curtis Stewart (Shayla), Javonda Fortenberry Lewis, Carl Stewart, Joshua Stewart, Lance Smith, Carneisha Smith and Curnisha Simmons; Grandchildren: Da'Janae Harris, Romelle Williams Jr., Da'Janell Harris, Romalas Williams, Romond Harris, Daijah Harris, Ryan Harris Jr., D'Nyri Harris, Ryah Harris, and Rayn Harris; Siblings: Daniel Harris, Gloria Hall (John), Shirley Morgan (Carl), Equilla Lenoir and Daniel Lenoir; One Godson: Noel Thomas Arnold III, Aunts Diane Blunt, Delores Blunt, Eyvone Blunt, Gylads Savone, and Diane Blunt; one uncle: Emanuel Simms and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Selita is preceded in death with her husband Curtis ""Kite"" Simmons, Parents Daniel Lenoir and Gloria Harris Lenoir Fernandez, and grandparents Luvurta Lenoir, Edna Harris and Manuel Harris. Her legacy will carry on forever reminding us to live a life of meaningful acts of love, kindness, and service. Family and friends are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration on Saturday, April 29, 2023, for 10:00 a.m. at New Home Ministries, 1616 Carondelet Street, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.
