Shirley D. Johnigan

1948 - 2024

Shirley D. Johnigan was born on September 24, 1948, to the late William Johnson and Maple Storey in New Orleans, LA. Shirley accepted Christ at an early age at her hometown church, Asia Baptist Church, New Orleans, LA. She transitioned from this earthly life on Friday, September 27, 2024. Shirley graduated from George Washington Carver High School, New Orleans, LA, class of 1966. She found her passion for helping and serving others by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse at Sidney N. Collier Vocational School of Nursing in 1980. She began her career at Charity Hospital, 5th floor, Male Medicine from April 11,1980, to December 2001. Shirley worked at Abide Home Health from January 2002 to August 29, 2005. She also worked at Central Home Health from 2007-2010. From June 2010 to December 2012, Shirley worked as a private duty nurse until retirement. Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Maple Storey, grandmother Ida Mae Phillips; her husbands, Levi Johnigan, Sr., and Brian Robinson, Sr.; her brothers: James (pigmeat) Wilson, Alton Jones, William Edward Johnson, Raymond Willard, and Donald Storey; her sons-in-law Cedric Brown and Lawrence Olide. Her devoted children will forever cherish her memories: Shirlene (Carl) Hall, Preston (Tanya), Ida, LaShaunda (Lawrence) Francis and Latorya (Demetrius) Lecoq; her sisters: Linda McGrew, Brenda Causey, Patricia Storey, Ava J. Gilbert, Elva J. Kent, and Muriel J. Murphy; her brothers: Willie Albert, Ronald Storey, and William T. Johnson. Godchildren, Yosha, and Broderick Phillips; grandchildren: LaShaunda Monroe, Allan, Quoshauna, Jessica, Andre, Shone, LaShone, Paris, Priscilla Francis, Wallisha (Douglas) Boone, Chevelle (Jurand) Louis, Cherell Hall, Jahira, Jahlea, Jahlae, Ronald Lecoq, Nakeita Bell, Demetrius Tillman, Jr., Lil Preston Harvey, Prejionn Adams, Lil Brian Snowden, Ronnisha (Precious) Johnson, and Darrell; 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral service are entrusted to Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home. You are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1st Pilgrim B.C., 1228 Arts St., N.O.L.A. 70117 for 10:00 a.m.. Interment is in Providence Memorial Park, 8200 Arline Dr., Metairie, LA. Visitation begins at 9:00 am.
