Thomas Cleaves Holmes Jr.

Thomas Holmes Obituary

Thomas Cleaves Holmes, Jr., age 79, died Thursday, February 20, 2003 at St. Francis Hospital after lengthy illness. He was born in Jackson, MS on December 15, 1923 to parents Thomas and Miriam Holmes. After graduation from Tulane University, Mr. Holmes served as a Parachute Infantry Unit Commander of the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign during World War II. He moved to Monroe from New Orleans in 1954 to open the branch office of Howard, Weill, Labouisse and Friedrichs, Inc., a New Orleans investment house. In 1988, he retired from A. G. Edwards & Co. after a long career in the investment brokerage business in Monroe and New Orleans. Mr. Holmes was a member of Grace Episcopal Church for nearly 50 years where he had served on the vestry. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Ann Milburn Holmes; daughters Elizabeth Holmes See of Dallas, TX and her husband Alonzo B. See III, Catherine Chandler Holmes of Oakland, CA, and Nancy Anna Holmes of Manila Philippines and a son Thomas C. Holmes III of Bowling Green, KY and his wife Michaela Villano Holmes; grandchildren Victoria Holmes See and Marianna Blackman See of Dallas, TX and Katherine Noel Holmes, Rachel Ann Holmes and Thomas Camp Holmes of Bowling Green, KY. Services for Mr. Holmes will be 2 PM, Monday, February 24, at Grace Episcopal Church with The Rev'd Gregg L. Riley officiating. Friends will be welcomed at home after the service. Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church.
