1932 - 2018

Tilford Joseph Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, August 3, 2018, at the age of 86. He was born on May 4, 1932, in Livonia, LA, to Tilford Joseph Sr. and Elizabeth Gray Joseph. He was a resident of New Orleans until he evacuated to Baton Rouge due to Hurricane Katrina. He worked as a longshoreman for 30 years before retiring. He married his first wife, Evelyn Joseph, and shared three daughters together: Helen Jefferson (TJ), Gwendolyn Joseph Moyo and Sheryl Joseph-Gilliam. He later married Estella Denson Joseph and shared three stepdaughters: Dorothy Joseph (Bernard), Shelia Nickelson and Estella Denson. He was the grandfather of Karen Jackson (Courtney), Helen Gordon (Boris Sr.), Valerie Perkins (Lodis Jr.) and Vernon Gilliam Jr. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wilbert Joseph and Ulyssess Joseph (Linda); four sisters, Margie Joseph, Olivia Joseph-Turner, Shirley Joseph-Huggins and Sylvia Joseph-Wright (Earl); a sister-in-law, Mona Joseph; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tilford Joseph Sr. and Elizabeth Gray Joseph; his wife, Estella Denson Joseph; a brother, George Joseph; a sister, Rena Joseph Clark; four brothers-in-law, James King, James Turner, Ronald Huggins and Joseph Clark; a sister-in-law, Ella Joseph; a niece, Lila Jean Clark; two nephews, Darryl King and Bryant Joseph and a great-nephew, Tevin Camp. Relatives, friends of the family and Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at 12:00 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. The Reverend Robert Brown will be officiating. Interment will be in Providence Memorial Park, 8200 Airline Drive in Metairie.
