If you knew Tim, you could not help but love him as a man and a historical reenactor. Always a man I loved to be around. Will always remember Tim as one of the very best :^).

I just googled Timothy Pickles because I'm such a fan of him in Napoleon Bonaparte: the Glory of France. So sad to see that he passed so young. I hope it gives his family peace to know that he is still imparting historical passion and knowledge in my classroom every year!

I remember Tim from my school days at St Michael´s Roman Catholic
Secondary School in Barnsley, England. Tim was in his final year and I was in my first.
I had no idea of how successful he had become until seeing him on a History Channel production a number of years ago where I immediately recognised his face.
I also went on to read history at University.
I googled him yesterday to see if I could find any news about him and I was very sad to hear the news of his passing.
Best wishes to all of his family and friends

So sad, knew him as a good friend when we started the NA in the uk.
I remember a trip to Paris when he met the then Prince Murat.
He was the spitting image of the original Joachim.
He will be sadly missed.
RIP Tim

A year has passed and what a year. Covid kept us from visiting our friend or even attending a service for him. I hope someone in the family will post a note sometime here or perhaps Facebook letting us know about any service there might have been, burial details, etc. Tim and I still had so much planned to do! Miss you, Tim my friend!

My deepest condolences to the family of Tim. He was truly a gentleman and historical scholar. I worked with Tim on a short film about the Battle of New Orleans. He played the character of General Pakenham. He was so much fun to work with. I will miss our conversations about history, family, and life. RIP, good man.

I met Mr. Pickles during the filming of 'First Invasion: War of 1812' in Perrysburg, OH. Although I've been a re-enactor since '81, I had limited experience in 19th century re-enacting. I appreciate the time spent talking with me about British heritage. I regret not being able to attend New Orleans' 200th. I was looking forward to being in his service as a
West Indian NCO. To the family...my condolences and thank you for sharing him.

Tim and I were friends in Knaresborough all those years ago. We always knew he was destined to move on to bigger things. I think his Mum would have been pleased for him and very proud. Tim was a very kind, decent and chivalrous man. I will always remember him with fondness. Very sad to hear he passed away.

I first met Tim in 1989 at the Chalmette Battlefield living history event and we became fast friends then and remained so to the end. He helped me in unnumbered ways over 30 years and without him the living history group 93rd Highlanders might not exist. I have no words to say other than heartbroken. He called me about a month before his passing to let my wife and I know about the cancer. We still had much planned - a film script he was working on, living history events, a visit to New Orleans. I thought I ought give him a call on that Friday afternoon and got his mobile answering service which I was not surprised by. I left a message saying we wanted to check in with him, hope he was doing well, etc. Then Sunday morning on Facebook I saw the news he had gone Friday night. I hope he somehow got to hear my last message. I miss him.

I was so sorry to hear about TIm's passing. It is a great loss for anyone who loves history or just good conversation. For many years Tim portrayed British General Pakenham and led the British living history troops at the Battle of New Orleans anniversary events at Chalmette Battlefield; his assistance and his knowledge of all things British military during the War of 1812 were always appreciated. Tim was also invaluable when the park rebuilt the battlefield visitor center after Hurricane Katrina. He was always ready with a good story, a witty insight, or a valuable bit of history, and like any good teacher he also knew when to tell me to "Look it up yourself"---and yes, I learned a lot from that too! He'll be missed both as a great friend of the battlefield and as a friend. My condolences to his family and to his friends around the world.

Tim was a dear friend and excellent historian. Every week Tim and another friend, Duncan Strachan would come over to our home in Slidell to visit. Tim would bring a military DVD with him to view or sometimes we would watch him on the History Channel. He will be missed.
