Troy Adams Obituary

ADAMS Troy Adams passed away at his home of heart failure on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at age 62. Beloved husband of Claudine Adams. Loving father of Etienne Adams. Brother of George Adams of Trumbull, CT and Eunice Lisk of Stratford, CT. Brother-in-law of Pierre Falandry of Nice, France. Uncle of Kelsey and Matthew Lisk of Stratford, CT, and Alizee and Guillaume Falandry, of Nice, France. Son of the late James and Lou Ella Adams. A graduate of LSU and UNO, Mr. Adams was a math teacher at Xavier Prep and St. Philip of Neri. Then he worked with the Orleans Parish School Board including Ben Franklin High School and Audubon Montessori. Anyone who knew Troy would describe him as a genuinely nice guy with a passion for life, his family, the outdoors, music, people and teaching. He had a special communion with nature and people. On his daily walks in New Orleans or on the beach in Stratford, he would chat with the friendly people he would meet and make a new friend each time! He started composing folk songs in high school. As a performer, he would play at the Neutral Ground Coffee House in New Orleans. Retired since 2010, he was focusing on his role as a father for his son, Etienne. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Tuesday evening, May 28, 2013 at 6:00 PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 4:00 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Etienne's college fund through J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, and for any further information please email '[email protected]'. To view and sign the guest book, visit www.lakelawnmetairie.com.

I met Troy at LSU my junior year and we became instant friends. We shared a lot in common as we both played guitar and loved basketball. Troy was so full of life that I expected him to live forever. I hadn't talked with him since shortly after Katrina when I called to check on him. I wanted to check on him again since this corona virus has taken such a toll on New Orleans. I had lost his number so I googled on troy adams new orleans and it went directly to this obituary. I am heartbroken. We were like brothers. Instead of attending my own graduation ceremonies at LSU, Troy, Warren Maher(from Metairie) and I travelled in a VW bug up to Wilton, Connecticut and beyond to see Troy's family and friends. I met George and Eunice when they were youngsters and Troy's parents. We met Troy's friends at Dartmouth and Berklee School of Music in Boston, went to Vermont and travelled through the Adirondack mountains in New York and came back through the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was really a trip of a lifetime. We remained friends after college and I was even able to play a few coffee house gigs with Troy in New Orleans. We went to the Jazz Fest and Mardi Gras. We visited quite a lot until the early 80's when our work began to consume us. But I always thought about Troy and missed his love of life, humor, and his truthfulness and search for the truth. We shared so many laughs that it's not funny. One thing that he said to me the last time I talked with him was that Claudine and Etienne were the best things that ever happened to him. Troy, I'm gonna miss you, my old friend, my buddy, my pal, my brother. And I hope St. Peter gave you a decent guitar when you marched thru. I just can't see you playing the harp...Love always Charles Randall

Here it is 7 years after the fact and I'm just learning of Troy's passing. What a crushing blow! I'm just seeing if the obit is still accepting comments. If so I'll write more later as I could go on forever...Charles Randall

Troy was my oldest brother and my life will never be the same. He would visit us in CT and loved to swim in Long Island Sound, go for walks along the beach, and visit with folks along the way. He made a new friend each time he visited. I'll always remember the sweet way he said my name; the way he could make you believe the craziest things with his 'straight face', and then his smile when he knew he had fooled you; I'll always remember his music, his love for the outdoors, and his love for his family. I have a hole in my heart, but am comforted knowing that he is with our parents and his dog, Jason. I will cherish the letters that we shared and the music that you created. Your loving little 'sista', Eunice Anne

The first time I saw Troy Adams I was awe-struck by his talent. He was performing his own marvelous songs at the UNO Coffeehouse, during the era when Lucinda Williams also played there. Later after we had become close and were playing music together, I questioned his muted response to my first wide-eyed approach, and he explained, "I thought there was a good chance you were crazy." Actually it was the shock of recognition. Farewell friend, and give my regards to your beloved yellow Labrador retriever Jason. I send my deepest condolences to the family.

Early on in elementary school, "Mr. A" quickly became my first favorite teacher. While I am greatly saddened by his passing, I find solace knowing that his time teaching has resonated such a positive impact on me and so many others. He will be sorely missed.

Claudine & Etienne ---

Troy and I had great times playing basketball on the LSU freshman team in 1968 and practicing with Pistol Pete Maravich, who was then in his collegiate junior year. Troy is my friend forever.

Mr. Adams, what a great guy, so enthusiastic! I'll never forget our field trips to Audubon Park to go study "parabolic tragectories" (aka acorn fights). I pray your enthusiasm and passion continue to bring light to the world.

Mister Adams, you taught me my first guitar chord, almost 20 years ago. And also some math. You would be proud to know I have gotten much better at guitar. Math, maybe a little bit. You were an inspiration to me and a super cool teacher. When I dream about those ancient wooden hallways of my elementary school, you are always there. My love and condolences to your family.
