William Ronald "Bill" McNeil obituary

William McNeil Obituary

McNEIL William Ronald (Bill) McNeil departed this world to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the age of 74. Beloved wife, Catherine Nonnie McNeil. Loving father of Kevin McNeil of San Diego, CA and Terry McNeil of Toronto, Canada. Brother of John McNeil, Canada, and Jerry McNeil of Canada. Also stepfather of Britt Dale and wife Deborah of Covington, LA and Blayne Dale of Natchez, MS. Bill was born in Hamilton, Canada on July 9, 1936, and received a Bachelors degree in business. Bill worked as an accountant in New York in the 60's and later owned a business creating parts for NASCAR racing cars in Gatlinburg, TN. Bill moved to Covington, LA 10 years ago because he loved the areas natural beauty and to be closer to his wife's family. Bill practiced real estate sales for ERA Stirling Properties shortly after moving to the area. Bill was a devout Catholic and participated in services at St. Benedicts in Covington. Archbishop Hannon and Abbot Justin visited Bill in his last days. Bill fought a valiant fight against ALS for about 15 months. His courage inspired us all. Our memories of Bill are of his quick wit and clear thinking. He will be missed. A Memorial Service will be held in the Steeple Foyer at the First Baptist Church in Covington on Saturday, April 2nd, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. St. Benedicts will offer mass for Bill at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and he will also be remembered at both masses on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bill's name to either St. Joseph's Abbey in Covington or to the ALS Association of America 27001 Agoura, CA 91301.

Of William’s Torch
With garden’s ode to trails …

So again, we say,
Let the word go forth
Let the word go forth… from this time
From this place
That again our hearts may pause
Pause to remember, reflect and cherish
A father, husband, brother, man and more
Of we cared, shared, loved and adored
Whilst not here in presence of form
Remains with us in gardens so near our gentle cares
In gardens where flowers sing immortal fare
And in these gardens…
We pace and breathe with whispers of our souls

So again we say, let the word go forth…
That this is not good bye
This is not farewell
This is not so long

But our odes to happy trails
For us
To you… until

Until we…
Until we meet…
Until we meet…Again

Nonnie and Family,

I will miss my Tuesdays and Wednesdays with Bill. It was my honor to bring Communion to Bill. Bill's faith gave him courage. That faith was a beautiful thing to witness. I thank God for Bill's life and thank Bill for sharing a piece of his life with me. I am sure Jesus was glad Bill came home to rest, it has been a long struggle. I will see you again my friend.
