Willie Barnes Obituary

BARNES Mrs. Willie Lee Barnes, was born August 10, 1912 to the union of the late Rev. Thomas C. Lee and Classie Perkins in Hammond, La. Peacefully passed away at her home in New Orleans, La. on August 29, 2010. Beloved wife of the late David B. Barnes. Mother of the late Lillian Barnes Snowden (the late Joseph) and Donald Michael Barnes. Mother-in-law of Patrice Howell Barnes. Grandmother of Michael Wayne Snowden and Michelle Andrea Snowden of New Orleans, La. and Dr. Tamara H. Lewis (B. Neil) of Albany, Ga. Devoted aunt of Lucille W. Peoples (William), Ronald A. Gearing (Patsy) and Deloris G. Pierre (Fellman) of New Orleans, La. Mrs. Barnes was the last surviving sister of Hezekiah Lee, Cindy Lee, Flavor Lee, Robert E. Lee, Mildred L. Rose, Naomi L. Gearing and Bernard G. Lee. Also survived by other friends and relatives. Mrs. Barnes was a dedicated member of St. David Catholic Church, a member of Knights of Peter Claver, Ladies Auxiliary, Sidonia C. McCarthy Court 125; Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality; St. David's Block Rosary Group; St. Vincent DePaul Society; St. David's Altar Society and a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers. Relatives and friends of the family, priests and parishioners of St. David, Blessed Sacrament and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Churches, employees of South Central Bell, Internal Revenue Service C.I., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center are invited to attend the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at St. David Catholic Church, 5617 St. Claude Avenue, New Orleans, La. on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 11:00 am. Visitation 10:00 am until funeral time. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, La. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. David Catholic Church in memory of Mrs. Willie L. Barnes. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp in charge of arrangements. Donald I miss your Mom so----much I often think of her-when I take my seat in the pew across from the pew were she always would sit my eyes glance over and can clearly see her praying the ROSARY with me! I miss my Angel Mrs.Barnes,I know one day I will see her at the gate in HEAVEN.

I Henry B Picquett Jr, am extending my feelings of lose to all surviving
family and my family for Mrs.Barnes was a inspiration to us all. I remember when we use to clean Saint Davids Church together and she would tell me what I missed and needed to go back over like a mother of guidance and those delicious brownies she use to make for mother her baking skills were impeccable.My parents and Mrs. Barnes were good friends and now they are together in eternal peace.
