Albin Thramer Obituary

Albin Eugene (Al Gene) Thramer, 89, of Council Bluffs, passed away August 24, 2022, in Council Bluffs, Iowa at his beloved 18-acre home. Al was born at home in rural Clearwater, Nebraska to Albin Paul and Agnes Lucy Rotherham Thramer on June 9, 1933, and raised on a farm near Ewing, Nebraska with his five siblings. There the family raised a large garden and surely this is where his love of planting vegetables, flowers and trees began. Al attended grade school at a small country school and graduated from Ewing High School in 1951. Only two days after graduation Al headed to the big city of Omaha where he was employed by Metropolitan Utilities District as a meter reader in August, 1951 and worked there 42 years until retiring as a manager July 1, 1995. He took off two years to serve in the U.S. Army from July, 1953 to July, 1955 where he trained troops as a Staff Sergeant. Al was united in marriage to Rita Marie Potter on July 19,1958, in Omaha, and together they enjoyed square dancing, family vacations, card playing, casino adventures, trips to Norfolk and Ewing, and winters in Arizona. Al was a busy and loving father as they raised 5 kids at their home in Council Bluffs where Al lived from 1971 until his passing. He loved to keep up with family near and far and made a point to stay in touch by attending as many graduations, weddings, family reunions, and funerals as he could across the country up until his last days. Al is preceded in death by his wife, Rita Thramer; their infant son, Albin Leo; parents, Albin Paul and Agnes; three brothers, Max, James and Greg; and two sisters, Lucy Kruse and Mary Dickes. Survivors include their children, Theresa, Regina Nestingen (Carl), Albin Patrick, Maureen, and Mark (Inger). He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends all of whom he loved dearly. Memorial donations may be made for masses or to the family. Al cherished his Catholic faith and his almost daily communion with his church family, therefore, Al's family will direct donations to his churches in Iowa and Arizona. Visitation Sunday 4 to 6 p.m. with Rosary Recitation to follow at 6 p.m. at funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial Monday 10 a.m. Corpus Christi-Queen of Apostles Church with Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Omaha. Military rites will be tendered at the grave. Luncheon will follow back at church.

I´m so sorry for your loss, Thramer family, and I will mourn with you. Sunday 8AM Mass will not be the same without his smile and hug to greet me. I have many memories of him from various church gatherings. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed by many.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

I will remember Al as a kind and generous person who always stayed in touch. Eating and playing cards are treasures for me to remember him. May he experience eternal rest and peace.
