David Allan Niemann

January 6, 1933 - August 19, 2024

David Allan (Dave) Niemann, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on August 19, 2024 at the age of 91 years, seven months at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Dave was born January 6, 1933 to Ruth and Edward Niemann and attended the Franz School, a country school, until 7th grade and graduated from Avoca High School in 1951. Dave attended Iowa State University until his Junior year and then enlisted in the United States Army. On February 25,1956 Dave married his college sweetheart, Janice Osborne, in Mason City, Iowa and they celebrated 66 years of marriage together. They raised their four children; Doug, Lisa, Laurie and Jay in Avoca, Iowa.

Shortly after marriage, Dave started working at Farm Bureau Insurance Agency. He and his friend, Earl Williams, ventured off on their own opening Niemann and Williams Agency in Oakland, Iowa. Eventually Dave opened Niemann Real Estate and Insurance in Avoca, Iowa where he enjoyed friendships throughout SW Iowa and worked until his retirement. David was raised on a farm outside of Avoca and was a lifelong resident of the community he loved and proudly served. Dave was actively involved in Shriners, Mt. Nebo Masonic Lodge, Trinity Lutheran Church Council, Avoca Housing Council, East Pottawattamie County Fair Board, American Legion, Rotary President, a member of Avoca Business and Professional Association and numerous Real Estate and Insurance Boards.

A three sport athlete in High School and avid sports fan, Dave, could be found cheering on his children and grandchildren or umpiring High School baseball and softball games. Dave enjoyed golf, his bowling league and looked forward to his weekly breakfast club with friends. Family gatherings always included playing cards or a game of cribbage. One of Dave's favorite past times was calling Bingo games at the American Legion which he continued playing at Risen Son.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Edward Niemann; loving wife Jan; and brother, Rodney. His memory will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family; his children, Doug Niemann of Blair, Nebraska, Lisa (Tommy) Kimbell of Wichita Falls, Texas, Laurie (Tab) Pedersen of Oakland, Iowa, Jay (Lou Ann) Niemann of Iowa City, Iowa; eight grandchildren, April (Dan) Powers, Andrea (Andrew) Sweeney, Maddie Hendrickson, Callie Kimbell, Abby (Carter) Holmes, Landen (Taylor)Pedersen, Ben (Ali) Niemann and Nick (Jenna) Niemann; 12 great-grandchildren, Alex, Ellie, Bella, Caiden, Olivia, Brooks, Isabelle, Rowen, Henry, Stella, Hunter and Amelia; sisters Shirley (Wallace) Pattee of Avoca, Iowa; Sharon (Cliff) Doyle of Loveland, Colorado as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

A 10:30 a.m. celebration of life was held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa with Pastor Matt Bahnfleth officiating. Interment with Military Rites conducted by the Fred Funston American Legion Post No. 227 in Avoca, Iowa was held at the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa.
