Thomas Coggins Obituary

Thomas Maxwell "Max" Coggins

April 2, 1939 - August 10, 2025

Thomas Maxwell "Max" Coggins, 86, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025. Born April 2, 1939, he was the youngest of five children of Dewey Otis and Sarah Frances Coggins.

Max married June Elizabeth (DeSanti) Coggins in 1963, and together they raised two daughters, Elizabeth (Dave) King and Rhonda (Curt) Coggins-Harrison. He was a proud and loving "Papa" to five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In 2019, through Ancestry DNA, Max discovered and warmly welcomed a son, Randy (Marcy) Gregg, and his family, adding more grandchildren and great-grandchildren and joy to his life.

Max loved his family, his dogs, a cold red beer, and summers spent at the lake in Minnesota. Known for his sense of humor and deep loyalty, he often said he preferred dogs to people-and meant it.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June; parents; and sisters, Nancy and Mary Jo. He is survived by his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and siblings, Dewey Otis (Maria) Coggins and Sara Wolff.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Funeral Service Wednesday, 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior at Cutler O'Neill Funeral Home. Burial in Memorial Park, with a luncheon to follow at the Walnut Hill Reception Center.
