Alexander DiGirolamo Obituary
Alexander (Alex) Felipe Savino, 23, passed away on September 1st, 2013 surrounded by family and friends.
He was born in Bogotá Colombia, lived in Waldwick NJ, and graduated with honors from Rutgers University in May 2012. As an animal lover, Alex enjoyed and took great pride in being an animal keeper at the Bergen Zoo. His gentle and kind soul will be missed by all who were close to him.
Alex is survived by his father Ralph DiGirolamo, his mother Paula DiGirolamo and her fiancée Geno Melo; sister Alea DiGirolamo; beloved family dog Kovu, and loving family and friends.
Visitors will be received on Saturday September 7th, 2013 at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue Wyckoff NJ from 3 PM until 7 PM, with a memorial service being conducted at the end of the gathering.
In lieu of flowers, Alex would really have appreciated donations be made in his memory to the Friends of Bergen County Zoo, 216 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ 07652 (or you can donate on-line at Friends of Bergen County Zoo.org/donate).

My sweet boy. Words cannot express my feelings of loss and despair even 12 years later. A light in my heart dies every day since you´ve been gone, but I´m comforted by the knowledge that you are in heaven with our beloved pet Rosie and your aunt Annie, grandma and the fun uncles you never really got to know. Please continue to watch over and protect us until we meet again.

I can´t believe eleven years have passed without you. I think about what kind of man you would have become, what your career would have been, where you would be living. If we believe what we were taught about the afterlife then one day we will all be sitting together and sharing. I hope that it´s true. See you in the rainbows!

Ten years. One year closer to when I can hug you again, see your radiant smile and tell you all of the stories that have occurred since the Father took you him to heaven. It´s tough without you...your sense of humor still makes me smile. Your kind soul, connection to animals, and bravery throughout your pain are all front and forward in my mind still. Can´t wait to be with you again. Other than Geno and true friends here on earth, no one else matters. I love you forever and always

Hello my love. Another has passed without your beautiful smile, kind heart, loving soul, sense of silly humor. It doesn´t hurt any less that the world moves on and the space in my heart that left with you is still sad and empty. The people who love me allow me to tell some of our stories and laugh at the sillies and cry when I cry. You are my everything and I love when you. Is it me in rainbow sightings and in my dreams. Another year without you. Wondering if you've been greeting all of our angels that have passed since the 9 years you left this earth. Your peers are getting married and having babies, and it's hard for me to watch their lives continue, even though I know you are in the better/best place ever. Your sister had a baby that will never get to meet you, but she is beautiful and I hope Alea talks to her about you. We have a 2 year old pup that we named in your honor - "Zander", and he has your soulful eyes and kind heart and brings joy to both Geno and me. Nine years....I'm not sure how much longer I'll have before seeing you again, but I look forward to sharing the heavenly joy and peace that you so beautifully deserve.

I cannot believe eight years have passed so quickly. I try and imagine what kind of man you would be now and I know you still would have a big kind heart and gentle manner. There are so many things you should be here for but I know you are watching it all and will be enjoying it from above. We all miss you still and will always.
