Arthur J. Sullivan Jr.

Arthur J., Jr., died on January 28, 2013 of pneumonia. He was 88. Arthur was born in Passaic, New Jersey on November 1, 1924 to Eleanor and Arthur J. Sullivan, Sr.. Arthur served in the Army during World War II in the 542nd Field Artillery Battalion of the 42nd Rainbow Division. After the war, Arthur returned to college at Princeton University, graduating with the Class of 1946. Arthur earned his law degree from Yale University in 1950. Arthur joined his father in the law firm of Sullivan & Sullivan, P.C., founded by his grandfather, Adrian D. Sullivan. For forty years, Arthur practiced with the firm, which had offices in Clifton and Montclair, New Jersey. Arthur also embraced public service, serving for many years as a City Councilor for the city of Clifton, New Jersey, and later as Clifton's City Attorney. In 1964, Arthur married Joan Drukker, his childhood sweetheart. Joan died of cancer on May 11, 1983. In 2006, Arthur relocated to Portland, Oregon to be closer to his daughter, Dana Sullivan, and her family. Arthur is survived by his three step-children, Peter Benner, Patricia Benner and Barbara Kaytes, and their families, and by his daughter, Dana, her husband David Schell, and their children Lincoln and Eloise. His three siblings, Louise Sullivan, Patricia ("Patsy") Spicer, and Quentin Sullivan, predeceased him. Arthur will be remembered for his style, wit, eloquence and generosity. A service will be held on February 9 at 2 PM at Holladay Park Plaza, 1300 NE 16th Ave., Portland. A service for east coast family and friends will be held in New Jersey later in the year.
