Barry Gordon Obituary
Barry E., age 64, of Tuxedo, NY, passed away very peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ in a room filled with family and lifelong friends. Most remarkable husband of Ellen L. Blum. Adored father of Jennifer Gordon, Michelle Gordon, Andrew Gordon and Jessie Blum-Gabriel and sons-in-law Hayden West and Dan Blum-Gabriel. Brother of Alan Gordon and his wife Rita and their children Marisa and Elana. Barry was a graduate of Hunter College in New York City and also Lehman College in Bronx, NY and was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity at Hunter College. Barry was a college professor at Monroe College in Bronx, NY and previously at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. He also taught for the New York City Board of Education for over 30 years. Besides his family, he loved the New York Mets, Doo-Wop Music, the outdoors and photography. Services will be 12 Noon today at Louis Suburban Chapel, 13-01 Broadway (Route 4 West) Fair Lawn, NJ. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Saddle Brook, NJ. He was a shining star and the lesson of his life is our gift.

Even after all these years, I continue to have great memories of Barry and often think of my best buddy. I often pleasantly bring him up to others when an event occurs that reminds me of my times with Barry.

Barry was my best buddy going back as far as I can remember. He was kind, giving, and caring. He was a mench! I think of him a lot, and when a once shared activity or song comes on the radio, my thoughts go right back to when that event took back and what we were doing at the time. We know not when our time will come...But we do know that it will.
What we do until that time is what defines us.
Most who knew Barry, knew him as a friend.
Not because he didn't meet people in other contexts...students and others...But because Barry befriended everyone.
I think it would be difficult among all present at yesterdays' services to think of anyone who cared more about the concerns of others than Barry did...perhaps to a selfless fault.
May his memory live long in our lives.
