Its obviously been a few years since you passed, Ludo, but I only just recently found out and I was so very sad to hear it. To all Dan's friends and fam, my deepest sympathies, even if they are far too late in being delivered. I was Mr Ludovici's (though to me he'll always be Ludo) student at EHS. I was in his Concert Band, Jazz Band and Chorus. Every morning, first period, for 4 years, there Ludo was, up front, directing us, cracking jokes, looking tired and surly, yelling at the drummers, cracking more jokes... There are some people you just never forget... Dan Ludovici was one of those people. He was always so incredibly, definitively HIM! Dan was also my tennis coach for 4 years. (Tennis was arguably my favorite thing about highschool.) Before every match he'd bring us all bananas. He'd walk up, a few dozen bright yellow bananas in his arms. "For the Potassium!" he'd say, his not-yet-lit cigar clenched between his teeth. During the match he'd walk a-ways away and smoke that cigar. I remember seeing him off in the distance watching the match intently, silently gesticulating in annoyance at the shots we were missing. Yep... Dan was truly one of a kind. To this day, I still tell stories about him every now and again. In fact, the way I found out he'd passed is because recently, even after all these years, out of the blue I thought, "I wonder what ol' Ludo is up to these days!?" and a quick google search let me know he was gone... I guess we dont realize how fast the time goes. But he was quite a colorful character, thats for sure. To be remembered, though, its not enough to just be colorful, you also have to have a good heart. And Dan did. He cared about us guys on the team and he cared about his band students and he cared about music and he lived life his way, which was a little different than most other people. Ludo, I'll never forget ya buddy! You truly were one of a kind, and I loved ya for it! I dont get to play too much tennis these days, Lude... certainly not competitively... but if by some strange set of circumstances I ever do, I promise I'll hit it straight to their backhand! Lastly, I hope whatever corner of heaven they stuck you in has plenty of good music, plenty of beautiful women, and the best, most pungent cigars a grissled old sax player could ever ask for! RIP, my friend...

I am deeply saddened and shocked by the passing of Dan. We would often frequent the same restaurants in Hackensack, NJ. It was always a joy to see Dan due to his jovial spirit and sense of humor. Dan will be greatly missed. God Bless
Rest in Heaven Dan

To Mr. Ludovici's family and friends:
I would like to share my heartfelt condolences to all those who knew and loved Mr. Ludovici; or Ludo as those who knew him well called him: He loaned me his Tenor Sax for our Dinner Dance; and wow what a great horn; this is one of my fondest memories of Mr. Ludovici, always supportive, giving, and encouraging; a truly great person, man and a wonderful teacher!!
I know that I always learned a lot from him; genuinely a great teacher; patient, kind and so supportive. His lending me with his own Tenor Saxophone for our Dinner Dance truly meant a lot to me. Trusting me with his own personal horn was really something as far as I was concerned! He made band practice and dance-band practice a great time: and always taught me a great deal; whether during band practice, or just hanging out in the music room.
I am sorry that I am unable to be there in person; but I want you to know that I will l miss him: and will always treasure the times we were together: Dance-Band, Concert-Band, or just hanging out in the Music-Room Office when I had study-hall! His good humor and kindness were just some of the wonderful traits that he always shared with his students.
Heaven just got a great teacher, band-leader; man, and musician, I'm certain that he has his baton in hand: tapping on the music stand; and is leading them all now.
To all of his friends and family: I extend my sincerest sympathies and condolences.
Friendship and love is forever: we will meet once again.
