Ernest Visconti Obituary
Rochelle Park - Ernest Visconti, 92 of Rochelle Park, NJ passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie (DeBlasio) Visconti, his parents Guy and Sophie (nee Casper) Visconti and brother, Eugene Visconti. He is survived by his children Guy (Nedra), Janet, Mark (Audrey) and Jimmy (Kathleen) Visconti. Grandchildren Russell (Lisa), Darrell (Jamie), Crystal (Ryan), Jessica, Mark (Alyssa), Francesca and Danielle. Great grandchildren Holland, Trinity, Cole, Bella, Brooke, Dallas and many loving nieces and nephews.
Ernie grew up in Wood-Ridge with a passion for basketball, baseball and flight pigeons. He is a member of the Wood-Ridge High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Upon graduation, Ernie left for Europe where he served as an Army Staff Sergeant during WWII. Ernie played semi-pro baseball and was drafted by Watertown Athletics of the America Border Baseball League in 1947. After finishing his second season with the league in 1948, Ernie returned home and started his lifelong career in air cargo with Flying Tigers Airline where he met his sweetheart, Marie.
Ernie and Marie married in 1950 and established their home in Rochelle Park and became active members in the community where they raised their four children. Ernie was a lifelong member of the VFW and American Legion. He coached Little League Baseball, played in the local Men's Softball League and was an avid golfer. He was an active birdwatcher and gardener. Flowers from his garden or his signature homemade birdhouses were a common gift to anyone that stopped in for a visit.
As an expression of sympathy, contributions in Ernie's memory may be made to the American Legion - Post 170, 33 W. Passaic St., Rochelle Park, NJ 07662. A gathering in celebration of Ernie's life will be held at a later date.
