Eugene MEYERS Obituary

MEYERS Eugene C., age 76 years of Hawthorne on Monday July 5, 2010. Beloved husband of Florence (nee Post) Meyers, father of Mark Meyers and Cynthia Nicols of Hawthorne, stepfather of Steven Barna of Wyckoff, Ronald Barna of Mahwah and Scott Barna of Ringwood, grandfather of Steven, Michelle, Jamie, Jessica, Matthew, Samantha, Brian and Alison, brother of Alice Meyers of Levittown, NY. Born in Paterson, Mr. Meyers lived in Hawthorne for the past 65 years. Eugene was the owner of Hawthorne Chevrolet, Hawthorne, Paramus Auto Mall, Paramus, Mahwah Hummer Cadillac, Route 23 Auto Mall and Mahwah Buick GMC, Mahwah. Mr. Meyers served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was the first and past president of the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, the Hawthorne Boys and Girls Club and the Tri-State Chevy Dealer Group. Gene was a member of the Hawthorne-Ramsey Fortitude Lodge, Ramsey and the Shriner's Livingston. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 199, Hawthorne and the Moose Club in Clifton. Mr. Meyers was the Man of the Year for the Hawthorne Boys and Girls Club. Funeral will depart the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne 9 AM Friday for a 9:30 AM mass at St. Anthony's R.C. Church, Hawthorne. Entombment Laurel Grove Memorial Park Mausoleum, Totowa. Friends may call Wednesday 7-9 PM and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Hawthorne Boys and Girls Club.(browningforshay.com)

I am deeply saddened to hear of Gene's passing. I can't help remember
all the laughs and the smile he brought to my face everyday. His stories were
legendary as was his heart, which he proved time and time again. He really never
did forget his roots and his community. He was a special guy and will be missed by everyone.

My sincere condolences to the Meyers family at this time. I was sorry to hear of Gene's passing.
I have been a customer of Hawthorne Chevrolet for many years and have always respected how Gene built the business into the best dealership in the state.
