Frank Zizik Obituary

ZIZIK Frank T., of New Milford, NJ passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Valley Hospital after a short illness surrounded by his loving family.Frank was born on May 16, 1921 to Polish immigrants Walter and Victoria Zizik, in New York City. He was predeceased by three brothers, Casimir, Walter, and Edward.He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Mary, nee Cheselka, two sons Robert P. Zizik and wife Debra of Stony Point, New York, and Frank J. Zizik and wife Gail of Cinnaminson, New Jersey and daughter Barbara M. Whitaker and husband Robert of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. He was the proud grandfather of six, Stephanie Downes and husband Christopher, Amanda and Gregory Zizik; Michael, Christine, and Diane Whitaker. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and John Fornazor of New Milford and many nieces and nephews.Frank proudly served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Distinguished Flying Medal, and five Air Medals for his service in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Phillipines. He was a manager for the United Fruit company for forty-four years until his retirement in 1983. Frank also served his community in several capacities. He was a member of the New Milford Recreation Commission, the Juvenile Conference Committee, and was a Commissioner of the New Milford Little League. He was a devoted parishioner of Holy Apostles Orthodox Church in Saddle Brook, New Jersey where he served as past president, treasurer, and councilman. Frank had a passion for gardening, reading, and the New York Yankees.Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday at the Boulevard Funeral Home in New Milford with a Parastas Service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the Holy Apostles Orthodox Church, 17 Platt Avenue, Saddle Brook, New Jersey from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM with a Funeral Service at 8 PM. A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, July 24 at 9 AM at Holy Apostles Orthodox Church followed by interment at the George Washington Memorial Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank's memory to either Holy Apostles Orthodox Church or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society would be appreciated.
