Helen Breen Moore

Helen Breen Moore, 82, and lifelong resident of Tenafly New Jersey, returned to her heavenly home on August 7, 2017 at the home of her niece, Kathleen Jensen in Virgil, New York. Helen graduated from Tenafly High School and was a member of the Society of African Missions Church. She attended Mt. Sinai School of Nursing in New York City and received her B.S. in Business Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Helen joined the Record in 1956 and after holding many positions, retired after 45 years as Senior Staff Assistant in 2001. In recognition of her work, Helen received the TWIN (Tribute to Women in Industry) Award. As a result of this recognition, she was associated with the TWIN Forum for several years through which she participated in programs designed to assist high school student prepare themselves for further education and the world of work. In 1976 Helen received the Hackensack Education Foundation's 1998 Distinguished Citizen Award. Helen was selected for her outstanding cooperation and guidance over many years in working with cooperative education staff of Hackensack High School. In 1988, in cooperation with, the then Hackensack High School Business Department she established a cooperative education program at the Record. Helen is predeceased by her father, John V. Moore; mother, Helen C. Moore; and brother, John V. "Dinty" Moore Jr.; sister-in-law, Evi Moore; Agnes Breen (Loudon Day); Loretta Breen Rose (Arthur); brother-in-law, Robert Jensen and niece, Jennifer Jensen. Helen is survived by her sister, Margaret Moore Jensen; niece, Margaret Cafferty; niece, Kathleen Jensen (Craig Umbehauer); nephew, Brett Cafferty; niece, Emily Cafferty; niece, Kristy Jensen Strough (Kristopher); David Breen (Betty) and family; Maureen Breen (and family); Arthur Rose (Joan) and family.Helen dearly loved her family. She enjoyed traveling to Ireland, researching Irish heritage, art galleries and gardening. Helen was an avid reader and often volunteered at the Tenafly library. Helen could often be found walking her dog, Oreo on Bliss Ave., tending to her flower garden, feeding the birds in the back yard and walking through the flower gardens at the Davis Johnson gardens. She was a member of the Tenafly Garden Club. Helen will be forever remembered as having strong faith, and believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing. Helen's family would like to extend gratitude to Susan Beard and "Siggy" Fried for their friendship and support throughout Helen's life. Friends and relatives are invited and may call at the Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Drive, Tenafly, NJ August 14, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral Mass: Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 10:00 at St. Cecilia's Church, 55 W Demarest Ave, Englewood, NJ. Interment directly following mass at: Mount Carmel Cemetery, 10 Serpentine Rd, Tenafly, NJ.

I'm so very sorry to hear about Helen's passing. I worked for her at The Record many years ago. She was a wonderful woman and I really enjoyed our time together. Helen often spoke about her family with great love. She will be greatly missed.
