Joan Cheney, 87, a resident of Ridgewood for 62 years, died October 29, 2012. Beloved mother of James (Irene) of Ridgewood, Jill Price (Brett) of Marlboro, Joann Rauso of Red Bank and Joseph of Lodi. Loving grandmother of Ted Harris, Laura Harris Whitman, Christopher and Jaime Rauso and three great-grandchildren. Joan's niece Ridley Giglio and nephew Whit Southwick also survive her. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Velma Cheney , her beloved husband of 60 years James Harris and her sister Sarah Martha Southwick. She was a hairdresser for Williams Hairdresser in Ridgewood in the 1950's. She was a long-standing member of the Old Paramus Reformed Church and its Women's Guild. For many years she volunteered at the Bergen Pines County Hospital, providing hairdressing services to elderly and infirm residents. Joan attended Bergen Community College and was proud to attain her Associate's Degree in 1979. A funeral service will be celebrated Friday, November 2, 2012 at the Old Paramus Reformed Church, Ridgewood at 11 AM. Visitation Friday, November 1st from 7-9 PM at the C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home, Ridgewood. Interment Valleau Cemetery. In her memory donations to the Old Paramus Church would be appreciated. Joan was a wonderful cook, enjoyed music and playing the piano, and loved sharing her many interests with her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who will be sorely missed.www.vanemburgh.com
