Joseph Comparetto

COMPARETTO Joseph, 87, of Upper Saddle River, NJ passed away on March 8, 2011. He was the devoted husband of 65 years to the only woman he ever loved, Angelina Comparetto who passed away on August 9, 2010; having met when he was sixteen and she was fourteen. He was the loving father to Joseph Comparetto Jr. and Pamela Eipert; father-in-law to Yolima Comparetto and Hermann Eipert; and the cherished papa to Ana Maria and J.A. Comparetto and Mariarose and Angelica Eipert. Joseph was born in Tampa, FL, although his family would relocate to New York City. During World War II, he was drafted into the Army Air Corps, where he served as a pilot instructor for B-17 bombers. In February 1945, he and Angelina wed and settled in Manhattan. Following the war, he founded Comparetto and Kenny with his partner Bernard Kenny, and developed it into the second largest architectural/engineering firm in the State of New Jersey for more than 30 years. Together they were responsible for dozens of schools, municipal facilities, office buildings and churches. These architectural wonders which will carry on his legacy. Joseph designed and built a home in 1960 for his family in Upper Saddle River, NJ; where they remained for the rest of their lives. In his later years, he and his wife Angelina enjoyed being "snowbirds" and spent their winters in Clearwater, FL, where they loved an active social life. He and Angelina were golfers and members of Apple Ridge County Club in Mahwah, NJ and the Belleair Country Club in Belleair, FL. He was honored twice by Marquis Who's Who in the East, and was an avid horseman and member of the Turf and Field Club in NYC. Joseph was an amazing man, who was surrounded by good friends and a loving family. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. He had stories that could entertain any lucky listener for hours, loved to entertain and was known to periodically burst into song. He was an avid painter and drawer; always making sure to include a portrait in every birthday card. But more importantly he was a family man and will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Van-Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Presentation in Upper Saddle River, NJ. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
