Deanna Comparetto Obituary

Deanna "Dee Dee" Binnenkade Comparetto, 83, of Enfield, entered into eternal peace Thursday, March 3, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by several of her children.

Born and raised in the Hazardville section of Enfield, Dee Dee was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Hayward) August and was a longtime communicant of St. Bernard Church.

She was predeceased by her first husband William F. Binnenkade of Enfield, with whom she had five children who survive her, Lori Minikowski and husband, David of Colchester; Linda Binnenkade of Windsor; William Binnenkade of Windsor; Anne Rossi of Suffield; and Ellen Beyerle and husband, Chad of Ashland, Massachusetts. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Charles "Chick" Comparetto of Enfield; as well as her five siblings. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrew Minikowski and wife, Melissa of East Haddam; Elizabeth Emory and husband, Tim of Glastonbury; Billy Beyerle, Bobby Beyerle; great-granddaughter, Hannah Lane Emory; Shabria Jackson, and Kyle Haverstock. She also leaves several cherished nieces and nephews who knew her lovingly as "Auntie Dee Dee".

As a teenager she worked on the tobacco farms during the summer, and after graduating Enfield High School she worked as a bookkeeper/typist for the Bigelow & Sanford Carpet Mill. When her children were young, she was a waitress at Smyth Farm Dairy Bar and then at Friendly's Ice Cream in Enfield. She especially loved her years as a waitress and the lifelong friendships she built with customers and her co-workers. Dee Dee was a consummate planner and organizer who loved to travel. She volunteered as Girl Scout Troop Leader and planned camping trips on Cape Cod and bus trips up and down the East Coast. She was also the organizer for many annual women's trips to tour different countries in Europe. She loved playing and coaching softball for the Enfield Women's League. She played catcher and was a pretty good slugger who would still brag about the home runs she hit. In the late 1970's, after becoming a widow, she entered the insurance profession and was employed by Aetna where she worked until retiring in 2008. While working full-time, she attended Asnuntuck Community College earning an Associate Degree. She also worked part-time for Barnes & Noble for several years.

Visitation hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. Family and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Leete-Stevens for a procession to St. Bernard Church, 426 Hazard Ave., Enfield, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal will follow at Hazardville Cemetery.

In memory of a wonderful person. She will be missed. My brother Bill and I attended EHS with her and her brother. My brother and Dee Dee graduated a year ahead of me. I was also good friends with her late husband, Chick. Condolences from a neighbor.
