Joseph Goffredo Obituary

GOFFREDO
Joseph, passed away on Saturday, December 12th 2015 in Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clares Hospital in Dover. He was 82.
One of fourteen children, Joe was born in Paterson to Antonio and Grazia (nee Salamida) Goffredo. He grew up in Paterson and moved to Lincoln Park in 1980.
Joe served in the United States Army from August 14, 1956 until being honorably discharged on July 28, 1958.
He was an Electrical Inspector with the State of New Jersey for many years before retiring in 2002.
Joe was a kind and gentle soul who would always give but never take. He loved many things in life. He spent many days casting his rod in hopes of reeling in "the big one." Whether he was down the shore, on a fishing boat or at a river or a lake, he would love to have his nieces and nephews coming running to see what he caught that day! He would then take his nieces and nephews out on the dock and show them the right way to carefully and slowly catch a crab, not just in a crab trap but on his hand-made crab lines. Then at dusk, he enjoyed his peace and serenity on the dock by feeding the birds and seagulls only to then take care of the birds in his backyard during the spring and fall months. He also loved working in his cellar where he would create many beautiful wood figures, rebuild boats, make fishing lures or use his imagination to make whatever someone asked of him. As much as all of this brought Joe happiness, nothing brought more of a smile to his face than his beloved wife, Terry. He lived his life to love her and care for her every day.
Joe was predeceased by his brothers: John, Carmen, Vincent, Donald and Orazio Goffredo; and his sisters: Tena Cantisano, Rose Krouch and Anne Ashby.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Theresa A. (nee-Payne); his brothers: Anthony of Colorado, Cosmo of California, Lawrence of North Carolina and William of Colorado; his sister, Rita Schweighardt of Florida; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene and Ronald DiMaggio; and his many dear nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered at 11 AM on Friday, December 18th 2015 at Saint Ann R.C. Church. 781 Smith Road, Parsippany. Interment: Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa. Visiting hours are on Thursday, December 17th from 4-8 PM at Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany, (973)887-3235 or visit www.partroyfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. P.O. Box 1000, (Dept. 300), Memphis, TN 38148.

I WAS VERY SADDENED TO READ ABOUT JOSEPH GOFFREDO. I REMEMBER HIM FONDLY FROM PUBLIC SCHOOL NO. 5 IN PATERSON, NJ. HE WAS A VERY NICE BOY AND HE CAME FROM A WONDERFUL FAMILY. OF COURSE, I HAVEN'T SEEN HIM IN MANY YEARS, BUT YOU ALWAYS THINK ABOUT YOUR SCHOOL MATES FROM WHEN YOU WERE VERY YOUNG. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ HERE, HE NEVER CHANGED AND WAS LOVED BY EVERYONE. IT MUST BE VERY COMFORTING TO HIS FAMILY THAT HE HAD MANY LOVING ARMS WAITING TO EMBRACE HIM. MY SINCEREST SYMPATHY. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.

I met Joe a few years ago fishing at the Manasquan Inlet. We became good friends and I would always look foward to going there and seeing Joe! Many of the relationships that i have formed at "The Wall", as we call the spot, all involve Joe, who some of us called him "The Mayor" Everyone there knew Joe or knew of Joe! He always had his dark pants, his white T shirt, his baseball cap, and his fishing knife on his side. Joe was such a sincere guy that he many times did not even fish but rather socialized or just talked to anyone or everyone there! We all will miss him so much because it wasn't the fishing that we went to the wall for, but rather the friendships and relationships. Joe was instrumental in touching all of us ! Joe is finally at peace and we will all miss him as the "Wall" just isn't the same place without him!!!
God bless you Joe!!
