Kevin Hurt Obituary
Kevin H., of Kinnelon, 74, passed peacefully on July 15th 2016,surrounded by his loving family. Born in Paterson, he was the son of the late Haworth and Ellen Hurt. Kevin, a long time resident of Kinnelon, grew up in Fayson Lakes and graduated from the University of Tampa with a physical education degree. He was a 4 year varsity football letterman, and was one of the first players named to the Miami Dolphins roster. He returned to Kinnelon and continued his career as a physical education teacher for the West Milford School District, respectively retiring after 39 years. Beloved by the community, he gave back by volunteering as a coach for the Kinnelon Junior Football Program. He was a mentor and confidant to countless youth, inspiring children to further their education and athletic aspirations. He was known simply as "Coach". He is survived by his devoted wife Barbara of 53 loving years, his cherished children Kevin and wife Tania, Kelly Pellegrini and husband David, Kerry and wife Aretha and Kristen Purdue and companion Harold Riether, his loving siblings, Marcy Burrows, Billy Hurt and Gregory Hurt, ten treasured grandchildren and one adored great-grandchild. The viewing will be held Monday, July 18th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Ryan Room at Our Lady of Magnificat Church, Miller Road Kinnelon. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, July 19th at 10 AM also at Our Lady of Magnificat Church. The final disposition will be private.

Mr. Hurt was my gym teacher from kindergarten to 6th grade and almost 30 years later I still think of him from time to time and look back fondly on all the fun we had in gym class during those years. I'm sad to see that he passed, I would have liked to let him know what a great job he did.

Kevin and I were best friends as young kids and can´t wait to see him with the Lord! I really missed him during their time in Texas but we still are! Can´t wait to see him again!

Kinnelon has lost a great man. Always there for the kids, and they all loved him. He touched the hearts of every football family and was what every coach should strive to be. Football is family forever and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wonderful family always.

Thank you coach Hurt for being such an inspiration not only to my husband Kurt as a child when he played football but to my 3 boys Liam,Seamus and Reilly who insisted on going to practice early everyday for the kinnelon rec football team in order to learn kicking techniques.May you rest in peace.
