Michael Accetta Obituary

Michael J. Accetta, 24, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown following the toughest fight ever fought against cystic fibrosis. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Accetta was born in Newton, Nov. 3, 1991 and lived in Wantage Twp.

Accetta was a 2010 graduate of High Point Regional High School and a 2012 graduate of Lincoln Technical Institute, where he received his certification as an automotive technician. He worked as receiving manager for Worldwide Supply in Franklin and also owned RaceM Tinting.

Accetta had a love for working on trucks or even anything with a motor, but especially enjoyed working on Ford vehicles and diesel engines. If you ever needed to find him, you could find him working in his garage.

He loved country music and was an avid fisherman and ATV rider and enjoyed the beach.

Accetta was a selfless person and lived his life on his own terms. He never let his illness stop him from doing the things he enjoyed in life. He was quirky and his comedic ways made his friends and family laugh.

He was a hero to many and inspired everyone. He left behind a legacy of strength, perseverance, and courage. Accetta, most importantly, adored his family.

He is survived by his parents, Malina (Balinski) and David Bennett of Wantage, sisters, Maria Hagemann and her husband William of Wantage, and Renee Accetta of Wantage, his nephew Blake Hagemann, who brought him much joy and happiness, maternal grandparents, Nancy and Richard Zweier of Vernon, and Michael and Evelyn Balinski of Vernon, paternal grandmother, Beverly Bennett of Little Falls, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and the love of his life, his girlfriend Chelsea Sullivan of Wantage, his best friend, his dog Remi, and his biological father Michael Accetta. He was predeceased by a step brother, Ryan Quinn.

Funeral services were held Wednesday June 29, 2016 at Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third St., Sussex. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery, Wantage. Friends called on the funeral home the day before. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Just Breath for Michael, 28 Coykendall Rd., Wantage, N.J., 07461. Proceeds will go to a scholarship fund in Accetta's name at High Point Regional High School and to other individuals suffering with cystic fibrosis. In his memory, please consider signing up to be an organ donor. For online condolences, please see fergusonfuneralhomesnj.com.

Michael was a shining light in my classroom - just the kind of kid everyone wanted to be around. His fun and goofy personality kept everyone laughing - especially me! It warms my heart to know that he was raised in such a loving family, and adored by everyone who knew him. He touched so many lives.

Michael had that type of quirky humor that I love. He was a pleasure to work with, even from afar. I, along with the Santa Barbara office, send our love and condolences to the Accetta Family. Michael truly was and will continue to be an inspiration teaching us all to keep fighting, keep living and to not let anything hold you back.

I am so saddened to hear of Michael's passing. He was in my nephew's class my first year teaching at SMS and I remember he was so full of energy! Ran into him years later when he was working at a car wash and I was really taken by his outgoing personality and manners. Years later he came to a parent teacher conference with his then girlfriend and I giggled and joked with him about being a surrogate parent. You would never think he was battling an illness. Very brave young man. Prayers and strength to his Family.

I knew Michael since he was a teenager coming to Morristown Medical Center and had the privilege of being part of his care there. He was full of life, energy, and fun - he always made me laugh. I loved interacting with Michael and his Mom and can only imagine the loss felt by this gracious young man. Michael, you will be missed, but your strength will always be an inspiration!
